CUET Difficulty Level 2025: Is the Exam Easy or Tough to Crack?

By universitykart team , Posted on Feb 07, 2025
CUET Difficulty Level 2025

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is an entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for candidates seeking admission to UG courses offered by central universities, state, private, and deemed universities across India. The exam is conducted once a year in more than 500 cities in India and abroad. To get admission, candidates preparing for the CUET 2025 exam must fill the CUET UG 2025 application form. The NTA is expected to release the CUET registration form in the last week of February 2025, and will soon announce the CUET 2025 exam dates on its official website - nta.ac.in. To ensure that CUET UG is conducted in a stress-free manner, the NTA will schedule the exams with proper breaks between exams.

The CUET difficulty level 2025 is expected to be moderate to high, especially for subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The CUET exam's competition level increases yearly as the number of candidates appearing for it increases with each academic session. Last year, over 13 lakh students appeared for the CUET exam and this number is expected to increase significantly for the academic session 2025-26. The CUET exam is designed to evaluate the candidate's subject knowledge and logical, analytical and critical thinking skills. Although the difficulty level is expected to be moderate for some of the tests, given the increasing competition, students can expect tricky questions that require a deep understanding of key concepts, especially in high-demand subjects. Candidates planning to take the exam should focus on thorough preparation as the difficulty level also depends on the CUET subject combination chosen.

Is CUET Easy Or Complicated?

Whether CUET UG is easy or complex depends on several factors, including the student's preparation, familiarity with the syllabus, and exam strategy. For students who have a good understanding of Class 12 subjects, CUET can be manageable, as it mainly tests knowledge at that level. However, time management is important for students as the exam is in MCQ format and they get limited time to complete the test. Since CUET 2025 exams are scheduled to be held in just a few months, students have to juggle between board exams and CUET preparation, making it difficult to balance the two. If students practice mock tests regularly and adopt a focused approach, they can definitely get a good CUET score.

CUET UG Subject-wise Difficulty Level

The CUET difficulty level 2025 is expected to be moderate to high, though the experience may vary depending on the subjects opted by the candidates.

Science and Technical Subjects:

Subjects such as Maths, Physics, and Chemistry are expected to be more challenging as they involve numerical problems, formulas, and conceptual applications. Students will need analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a strong grip on the core subjects of Class 12 to perform well in the exam.

  1. Math: Questions may involve complex calculations, requiring both speed and accuracy.
  2. Physics: Concepts such as mechanics and electricity may pose challenges due to complex problem-solving.
  3. Chemistry: Organic and inorganic chemistry sections can be tricky, with questions focusing on both theory and reactions.
  4. Humanities and social sciences: Subjects such as history, political science, sociology, and psychology are relatively easy, focusing on theoretical concepts and factual knowledge. However, doing well in these subjects still requires critical thinking and retention of information.

General Test and Language Section:

The general exam evaluates logical reasoning, numerical ability and general awareness. Though it is not very difficult, it requires good time management. The language section focuses on reading comprehension and verbal ability, which most students can manage with regular practice.

Important Points Affecting CUET Difficulty Level

Many factors contribute to the CUET difficulty level 2025. Refer to the space below to know about the same:

  1. Complexity of syllabus: The CUET UG syllabus largely overlaps with the board syllabus, making the level of difficulty dependent on how familiar the students are with the concepts already. Students who excelled in board exams may find CUET easy in terms of content, but challenging in terms of format and application of knowledge.
  2. Nature of questions: CUET focuses primarily on objective type questions (MCQs) that demand clarity of concepts, quick problem-solving, and critical thinking. The complexity of questions varies by subject. For example, science and technical subjects such as maths and physics are often considered more difficult than others.
  3. Number of applicants: The growing popularity of CUET increases competition. Last year, over 13 lakh applicants appeared for the CUET exam, and the growing number of top-performing students makes the exam more competitive every year.
  4. Variety of subjects: Since CUET allows students to choose from a wide range of subjects including languages, CUET domain subjects, and a general test, the level of difficulty may vary depending on the subjects chosen by the candidates. Some subjects such as Economics, Business Studies, and Mathematics may be more challenging due to their analytical and problem-solving nature.
  5. Time management: The exam requires candidates to solve several sections (50 questions) in a limited time; i.e., 60 minutes. The pressure to finish the paper with accuracy adds another layer of difficulty. Balancing time between answering questions correctly and completing the exam may be challenging for many students.
  6. Previous year trends: Exam trends from previous years show that while some subjects have been consistently difficult, others may fluctuate. Taking mock tests, practice papers, and understanding the question pattern can give a better idea about the expected CUET difficulty level.

How to Manage CUET Difficulty Level?

Preparing for the CUET UG exam requires a good strategy. Here is a detailed description of how you can effectively manage the CUET difficulty level 2025 and maximize your score:

Focus on NCERT Books to Strengthen your Basics

  1. NCERT textbooks provide a comprehensive and straightforward understanding of core concepts, especially for science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.
  2. Since most of the CUET syllabus is from Class 12 topics, mastering the NCERT material ensures that you are well-prepared for most sections.
  3. Highlight important topics and solve NCERT exercises given at the end of each chapter to build a strong base for the concept.
  4. Once you are comfortable with NCERT concepts, start learning from additional reference books for more practice.

Practice Previous Years' Papers and Mock Tests

  1. Solving CUET previous years question papers gives an idea about the structure of the exam, type of questions asked and recurring exam pattern. It helps to estimate which topics may be more important and hence need more practice.
  2. Solve CUET mock tests regularly as it simulates the real exam conditions, familiarizing you with the time constraints and pressure of the actual exam day.
  3. Regular practice improves speed and accuracy which are the two most important factors to score well in MCQs.
  4. Analyze your performance after each test – identify mistakes and take corrective action to improve.

Identify Weak Areas and Allocate Extra Time to Those Subjects

  1. At the beginning of your preparation, evaluate yourself and identify the subjects or topics you struggle with.
  2. Create a study schedule that devotes more time to these weak areas, while also revising topics you are confident about so that you don't forget those concepts.
  3. Focus on understanding concepts rather than memorizing, especially for subjects like Maths, Economics and Physics, where questions test application skills.
  4. Use online resources, video tutorials or study groups to get help on difficult topics if needed.

Develop Time Management Strategies by Practicing Under Timed Conditions

  1. The MCQ format and time-limited nature of CUET requires strategic time management. You must allocate time to each section and avoid getting stuck on challenging questions.
  2. Practice with a stopwatch or timer during mock tests to simulate exam conditions and keep track of how much time you spend on each section.
  3. Make it a habit to skip difficult questions initially and revisit them later when you have time. This prevents wastage of time and ensures that you attempt all sections.

Maintain Mental Well-Being Through Regular Breaks and Stress Management

For effective preparation, it is important to manage your mental health and avoid burnout.

  1. Take small breaks in between studies to refresh yourself and avoid fatigue. A study routine of 40-50 minutes of focused study followed by 10-15 minutes of rest is ideal.
  2. Do physical activities or use relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga or breathing exercises to manage stress.
  3. Adequate sleep and a balanced diet are essential to keep your mind sharp and energised during preparation and exam days.
  4. Stay motivated by setting small goals, rewarding yourself for progress and maintaining a positive mindset.
