GATE Age Limit 2026

There is no age limit for the GATE 2026 exam. Candidates of any age are welcome to apply as long as they meet the eligibility criteria established by GATE. In other words, there is no age limit for those who wish to sit for the GATE exam.

GATE 2026 Nationality

Nationality is an important factor for GATE exam. The exam is open to foreigners, but only from certain countries. Here is the complete list of countries whose candidates are eligible to take the GATE exam.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2026 for non-Indian university candidates

Candidates who got or are getting their required degree in a country outside India must meet these criteria to be eligible for GATE exam:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology: Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology. This degree has a minimum duration of four years.
  2. Candidates must have a postgraduate degree in a related field. The degree must be completed or in its final year. The minimum duration of the course is two years.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2026 For International Students

If you are from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, or the United Arab Emirates (UAE), you can take the GATE 2026 exam. But you must meet these GATE 2026 eligibility criteria:

  1. Candidates must be in at least the third year of their bachelor's degree. They can also have a completed bachelor's degree. This can be in Engineering, Science, Arts, Technology, or Commerce.
  2. Students need to have finished a graduate degree in related science fields. Or they can be in their last year of graduate studies. Or they can be working on completing their graduate degree.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2026 - Documents Required

When applying for the GATE exam, you must attach the necessary documents to prove your eligibility for GATE 2026. You must attach these documents when completing the GATE application form. Below are some key points about the required eligibility documents:

  1. Candidates who passed the qualifying examinations in 2026 or earlier must present their university degree, provisional diploma, course completion certificate, or membership certificate issued by the competent authorities..
  2. If a student expects to meet the GATE eligibility in 2026 or later, they need to upload a Provisional Certificate Letter. This letter must be issued by the Head of Institute, Dean, Registrar, or Head of Department. They can also upload a copy of their AMIE (Associated Membership of the Institution of Engineers) Section A report card.
  3. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are candidates who must show a PwD certificate. This certificate is from a recognized authority. Candidates need at least a 40% disability, no matter the type. This will give them a fee discount. They must also show the certificate when they get into the school they're assigned to.
  4. Candidates with failed subjects in their qualifying exam must upload a copy of their final year's mark sheet. This must be from the institute where they will take the exam. Downloaded mark sheets will not be accepted.
  5. People in the SC/ST category can get a discount on the application fee. They need to show a valid document. Officials authorized to issue these certificates will accept them.
  6. Dyslexic people need to show a certificate from the authorities about their condition. This allows them to use the services 

Note: The GATE 2026 eligibility certificate, if applicable, should be uploaded only upon completion of the online application form and should not be sent by mail.

GATE 2026 Eligibility For M.Tech.

Candidates who pass the GATE exam can join M.Tech courses at some top institutes like IITs, NITs, and IIITs. There is no special GATE counselling process.

To apply for M.Tech at IITs, you must complete the GATE 2026 registration. This is done through the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). The COAP process is separate and has a specific procedure you need to follow.

Candidates who want to join NITs, IIITs, and some CFTIs for M.Tech programs must apply through a central counselling process. This process is called Centralised Counselling for M.Tech 2026 (CCMT).

By knowing the counselling process, GATE-qualified students can get into desired M.Tech programs at top schools in India.
