The JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria haven't been announced yet. As a guide, students should follow the previous year's JEE Main eligibility criteria until the official information is released. To be eligible for JEE Main, students must have passed one of the following qualifying exams.
Note: If the Class 12 examination is not recognized by AIU, it will not be considered a valid Qualifying Examination.
For the JEE Main 2026, there is no age limit. Students who obtained 12th place in 2023, 2024, or 2025 are eligible to apply. They can take the exam three times in a row, in January and April. However, they must meet the JEE Main age limit of the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs to be admitted.
Eligibility for JEE Main 2026 has not yet been announced. Students can refer to last year's rules for guidance. According to JEE Main 2025, they were eligible to appear for the exam if they passed Grade 12 in 2023, 2024, or were scheduled to appear in 2025. Those who passed Grade 12 in 2022 or earlier were not eligible. This is likely to be the case in 2026, but students should wait for the official notification from the NTA.
JEE Main 2026 has three different courses - BTech, BArch, and BPlan. The combination of subjects is unique for each course.
The JEE Main exam allows six attempts. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts it twice a year. Students can take it three years after completing grade 12. This means the total number of attempts for JEE Main is six. In 2026, JEE Main will be held in January and April.
Candidates who completed grade 12 in 2024 or 2025 can take the JEE Main 2026 exam. Those who will take the JEE Main in 2026 can also do so. However, candidates who completed grade 12 before 2024 or after 2026 are not eligible. These are the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2026.
Your eligibility status for JEE Main 2026 is based on where you passed the Grade 12 exam or an equivalent exam. This determines whether you are eligible for JEE Main 2026. Your JEE Main 2026 eligibility status does not depend on your state of residence or where you live. For example, if you took the Grade 12 exam in New Delhi but reside in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, your eligibility status will be Delhi, not Uttar Pradesh. If you first passed the Grade 12 exam in one state and then rescheduled for another, your eligibility status will be the state where you first passed it. Students who passed or appeared for the Grade 12 exam at NIOS should choose the state where their school is located as their eligibility status.
For Indian citizens passing the Class 12 or equivalent examination in Nepal/Bhutan, the state eligibility code will be determined based on the permanent address in India shown in the candidate's passport.
