What are the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2024?

Applicants must check the eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2025 before filling the application form. Candidates who fail to meet the required JEE Main eligibility criteria 2025 will be rejected at the later stage of the admission process.

JEE Main Qualifying exam

  1. Students must have passed or cleared class 12th exam in 2023 or 2024. 
  2. Candidates appearing for class 12th or equivalent qualifying exam in 2025 can also apply

JEE Mains age limit

There is no age limit for JEE Main. Any student who has passed class 12th or its equivalent examination in the year 2023 and 2024 or appearing in 2025 can apply for IIT Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria.

JEE Main Number of Attempts

  1. The attempt limit for JEE Main is set for three consecutive years.
  2. The entrance exam will be conducted in two attempts (January and April).
  3. Students who have passed class 10+2 in 2023 and 2024 can appear for JEE Main 2025 exam.

JEE Main Eligibility Marks in 12th

There is no minimum Class 12 marks required to appear for the JEE Main exam. However, candidates must score a minimum of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to get admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and some premium colleges. Irrespective of your JEE Main rank or percentile, JEE Main eligibility marks in Class 12 are required to get admission. Also, JEE Main eligibility marks in Class 12 remain the same for SC and ST.

JEE Main State of Eligibility 2025: Snippets

  1. The state code of eligibility for JEE Mains does not depend on the candidate's place of origin or place of residence.
  2. If a student has passed the 12th class examination or equivalent examination from a state but has appeared for improvement/supplementary examination from another state, the state code from which he/she has passed the qualifying examination will be taken into consideration for eligibility.
  3. The 12th percentile required for JEE Mains 2025 or equivalent examination from NIOS will have to choose the state of eligibility based on the state in which the study centre is located.
  4. For Indian nationals who have passed class 12th or equivalent from Nepal/Bhutan, the state code of eligibility will be given based on the permanent address in India mentioned in the passport.
  5. The State code of eligibility for OCIs/PIOs who have passed class 12th examination in India will be at par with Indian nationals, however, OCIs/PIOs who have passed class 12th examination from a college/institute abroad will be eligible for Other State Quota seats or All India Quota seats in all NITs, IIITs and other-CFTIs (not for Home State Quota seats).

JEE Mains Eligibility Criteria for Admissions in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs

  1. JEE Main eligibility marks in 12th for admission to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs: Students must have passed class 12th with the required 75 percent marks for JEE Main 2025 or they must be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 exams (65% for SC/ST candidates).
  2. JEE Main 2025 Admission (B.Arch/B.Planning): They must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board with the required JEE Main eligibility marks in 12th, which is 50% of the aggregate marks.

JEE Main 2025: Subject Combinations for Admissions

  1. NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Admission: Students should have passed the 12th class with a minimum of 75% criteria in JEE Mains 2024, or they should be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 exam (65% for SC/ST candidates).

  2. JEE Main 2024 Admission (B.Arch/B.Planning): He/she should have passed a 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board with the required qualification marks for JEE Mains, i.e., a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in JEE Advanced

Candidates who clear the JEE Main exam and rank in the top 2,50,000 will be eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced exam. Check out further JEE Advanced eligibility criteria based on JEE Main below.

  1. JEE Main 2025 rank should be less than 2,50,000 (including all categories).
  2. Candidates will be shortlisted based on the reservation category. Here is the percentage distribution of different categories among the top 2.5 lakh applicants as per last year's notification.
    1. GEN-EWS - 10%
    2. OBC-NCL - 27%
    3. SC - 15%
    4. ST - 7.5%
    5. OPEN - 40.5%
    6. PwD - 5% horizontal reservation in all of the above.

Apart from the JEE Main eligibility criteria mentioned above, candidates must also fulfil certain conditions based on age limit, number of attempts, class 12th exam and previous admissions to IITs to appear for JEE Advanced. JEE Mains Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Droppers

  1. There is no age limit in the eligibility criteria for those who wish to re-appear for JEE Main 2025.
  2. He/she must have passed his/her class 12 exam in 2023, 2024 or 2025.
  3. As per JEE eligibility 2025, three consecutive attempts are allowed for the exam.
  4. Students must obtain the minimum required qualifying marks for JEE Main.
  5. Candidates must take at least 5 subjects for class 12 or qualifying exam (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics compulsory).
