JEE Main 2026: Selection process

The JEE exams are the main gateway for the students willing to take admission into top colleges in the country. The JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are conducted for students who aspire to become Engineers. Students who qualify for the JEE Mains selection process after taking the examination are eligible for the second round, JEE Advanced. Students who qualify for both the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are successfully admitted into the IITs.

JEE Main 2026 Selection Process

If you want to appear in JEE Advanced, you have to first clear JEE Mains. The mains are held in two phases of the exam. After written exams, candidates have to qualify for all other rounds. The exam is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). According to sources, the NTA has formulated new changes in the JEE Main Selection Procedure in the upcoming years.

JEE Mains 2026 Online Application Procedure

If you plan to apply for the JEE Mains examination, you can easily submit your application online. However, students must meet the eligibility criteria set by the NTA. The eligibility criteria for the JEE Mains examination are briefly mentioned below:

1. Students must have a Class 12 board examination certificate. 
2. Students who are appearing for the 12th board examination are also eligible for qualification. 
3. There is no age limit for applying for the JEE Main examination. 
4. Students can appear for the JEE Mains for three consecutive years after passing class 12th. 
5. The main subjects for B.Tech are Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational subjects and for B.Arch.
6. Students need to have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their 12th grade as the main subjects. 

JEE Main 2026 Seat Allocation Process

Students can check the number of seats available in a particular college, class or branch. The NTA has no information about seat availability or booking criteria. 

After the results declaration, seat allotment dates and other selection procedures will be handed over to the Centralised Seat Allotment Board (CSAB) or Joint Seat Allotment Authority (JoSAA). Students should check vacancies in their chosen class or branch department.

JEE Mains 2026 Counselling Process

Once you have been selected for a counselling session, you can change, rearrange, delete or add a new selection. Once the seats are locked during the procedure, the candidate is not allowed to change their choices or add something else. If no changes are made, the selection is complete. Students must have hard copies of their locked elective courses. A printout of the terms and conditions must be agreed upon with the students and signed by them. This must be presented during the central registration for admission.

JEE Mains Admission Process 2026

A student who does not fill out any of the options will be restricted from the admissions process. Other steps in the JEE Main 2026 admission process are as follows:

1. A registered student can fill out the options after the third round to participate in the fourth round of the application process. Otherwise, candidates will not be able to participate in the fourth round of the application. 
2. Students who have provided incorrect information will not be considered. Legal proceedings will be initiated against students who provide false information.
3. For students who have a seat reservation fee, it must be given to everyone in the reporting center. If students fail to do so, their seat allocation will be cancelled.
4. Students must have appropriate hard copies of certificates. In addition, students must have the allotment letter printed on the official website.
5. Printed copies of payment receipts must be present at the time of notification. Payment can be made through e-challan, debit/credit card, internet banking, etc.
