MHT CET Eligibility Criteria 2026 - Maharashtra State CET Cell has released the MHT CET 2026 eligibility criteria on the official website cetcell.mahacet.org. Candidates can check the MHT CET eligibility criteria to know the minimum conditions required to appear for the Maharashtra entrance exam. The minimum MHT CET eligibility criteria 2026 requires candidates to have passed 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognized board/university. MHT CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidate Nationality: All candidates ought to be citizens of India.

Age Restrictions: The candidates are not subject to any age restrictions imposed by the authorities.

Qualification Test: Candidates must have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects in their 12th grade or its equivalent from an accredited board or university. Applicants who plan to sit for the qualifying exam, which is the 12th grade in 2025, are also qualified to take it.

Minimum Marks Needed: Candidates from the general category must have received at least 50% of the possible points in their 12th-grade exam; candidates from the SC, ST, and OBC categories may only receive 45% of the possible points.

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria for Direct Admissions

Some categories of candidates will be eligible for direct admission without giving the exam, such categories are-

Children of NRI/OCI/PIO.
Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries.

Candidates must have secured a minimum of 45% marks (for General category). However, the minimum marks for reserved category and Divyang candidates (belonging to Maharashtra state only) is 40% marks. OR As per the MHT CET eligibility criteria for other state students, candidates must have passed Diploma in Engineering & Technology with minimum 50% aggregate marks (for General Category) and minimum 45% aggregate marks (for Reserved/Backward Classes/Persons with Disabilities belonging to Maharashtra State only). OR Candidates must have passed B.Sc degree from a recognized university with minimum 45% aggregate marks (for general category) and minimum 40% aggregate marks (for backward class/disabled persons belonging to Maharashtra state only). These candidates must have passed class XII with Mathematics as a subject.

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria 2026 for Maharashtra State Candidature

Type A	Candidates are either domiciled in Maharashtra and/or born in Maharashtra. Such candidates must have passed the SSC or Diploma in Engineering or HSC or Bachelor of Science Exam from a recognized institute in Maharashtra.	Place of passing the Qualifying Exam should fall within the jurisdiction of the respective University area.
Type B	Candidates not falling in Type A but their mother or father are domiciles of Maharashtra. (They must possess a domicile certificate).	Place of domicile certificate issuing authority must fall within the jurisdiction of the respective University area.
Type C	Candidates who do not fall in Type A or Type B but whose mother or father is a Government of India or Government of India Undertaking employee. Either of the parents should be posted and reported to the duty in Maharashtra before the deadline of MHT CET CAP application submission (which means the counselling application form).	The parents posting area must fall within the jurisdiction of the respective University area.
Type D	Candidates who do not fall in (Type A, B and C category), but either of their parents are employees of or are retired as Government of Maharashtra or Government of Maharashtra Undertaking.	Place of posting of mother or father or place of settlement in case of retirement or place of last posting in case posted outside Maharashtra state falling within the jurisdiction of the respective University area.
Type E	Candidates passing SSC and/or HSC Exam from a recognized institution situated in a disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border Area and whose Mother tongue is Marathi.	Candidates were considered under outside home University or for outside Maharashtra state seats.

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria for All India Candidature

This group includes applicants who are Indian citizens but do not reside in Maharashtra. Candidates who do not reside in the state can also apply for MHT CET 2026 and take admission in the best colleges in Maharashtra.

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria for Minority Candidature

Candidates of the State of Maharashtra who are members of any particular linguistic or religious minority community declared by the Government fall in this category.

If a candidate lives inside the disputed border between Maharashtra and Karnataka, they are eligible to apply.
Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination from a school in the disputed border area and must have the required MHT CET qualifying marks.
Applicants must provide a residence certificate from the headmaster or principal of the college or school.
Such candidates must be Marathi native speakers. Candidates must also show a certificate of passing the 12th class examination issued by the principal or headmaster of the college.
The applicant must have done a course in Marathi in 10+2 or equivalent examination.

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria for Other State Candidature

Candidates in this category must have domicile certificate, residential certificate, residence and date of birth certificate issued by an authorized organization outside the state of Maharashtra. Migrant candidates from Jammu and Kashmir will be considered for OMS

Children of NRI/OCI/PIO/Indian workers in Gulf Countries (CWGC), Foreign National (FN) Candidates	These applicants must have completed the HSC or an equivalent exam, with Physics and Mathematics required, along with one of the following: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Technical, or Vocational subjects, with a minimum of 50% in each subject taken together.
Candidates of Maharashtra State (State Quota)	Nationality: Only citizens of India are qualified. Educational Requirements: Applicants must have passed the HSC or its equivalent exam, with Mathematics and Physics required, and any of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Technical, or Vocational. For the General Category, candidates must have received at least 50% of the possible points in these subjects; for the Reserved Category and PwD candidates (limited to Maharashtra State), the minimum percentage required was 45%. Alternatively, candidates must have completed a diploma programme in engineering with a minimum of 50% overall for general candidates and a minimum of 45% for reserved, backwards, and disabled candidates who are solely residents of Maharashtra State. Alternatively, you must have earned a B.Sc. degree from a university accredited by the UGC, as defined by the UGC, with a minimum of 50% overall for the general category and a minimum of 45% overall for the backward class and people with disabilities who are solely from Maharashtra State. These applicants ought to have completed mathematics as a subject in their XII class.

Maharashtra State Candidature Criteria for MHT CET 2026

Candidature Type	Eligibility Criterion
Type A	Applicants passing the Maharashtra state-recognized HSC, Bachelor of Science, or Diploma in Engineering exam. A candidate who was either born in Maharashtra or has their domicile there
Type B	The candidates do not fit into Type A, but their parents are from Maharashtra. (They need to have a certificate of domicile).
Type C	Applicants whose parents work for the Government of India or a Government of India Undertaking but who do not fit into Type A or Type B categories. Before the MHT CET application deadline, one of the parents must be assigned and reported to duty in Maharashtra.
Type D	Candidates who do not fall in (Type A, B and C category), but either of their parents are employees of or are retired as Government of Maharashtra or Government of Maharashtra Undertaking.
Type E	Applicants whose mother language is Marathi and who have passed the SSC or HSC exam from an accredited school located in a contentious Maharashtra-Karnataka border area.

Important Instructions for MHT CET 2026 Candidates

There will be multiple choice questions (MCQs) on the question paper.
There will be four options (answers) for each question.
Out of the four options, only one will be accurate.
Each question in the subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics will be worth one mark.
There will be two marks available for each question in maths classes.
The MHT CET lasts for 180 minutes in total.
The applicant must respond to 150 questions.
No negative marking is present.
It is recommended that candidates avoid devoting excessive time to any one question.
There will be questions in Marathi, Urdu, and English.
Only candidates who selected Urdu or Marathi as their preferred language on the online MHT CET application form will have access to the question paper in those languages.
