UGC NET 2024 Selection Process

All the candidates appearing for the UGC NET 2024 exam must know the selection process of UGC NET. UGC NET selection process consists of several stages. It shows the number of qualified candidates (total number of candidates qualified for the position of Associate Professor). Usually, it is about 6 per cent of candidates appearing in NET papers as well as 1 percent (in case of JRF). This is necessary to make the final selection.

UGC NET 2024 Selection Procedure

Step 1 – Fill out the UGC NET 2024 application form

Candidates who want to appear in the UGC NET exam must first fill the application form successfully. The application form was published on 20.04.2024. Candidate must fulfill the eligibility requirements of UGC NET 2024.

Step 2 - Take the Exam

Candidates who have successfully submitted the application form will get a UGC NET Admit Card to appear in the exam.

Step 3 – Exam Qualification

Candidates who have appeared for the exam and prepared for the UGC NET exam, the next step is to crack it. For UGC NET JRF and Lectureship candidates must obtain qualifying marks.

Candidates can check the minimum marks for the UGC NET Exam:

  1. Total UGC NET Qualifying Marks (Both Papers) – 40%.
  2. UGC NET OBC, Other Reserved Category Candidates – 35% Marks

Step 4UGC NET 2024 Selection Process for JRF and Lectureship

UGC decides the eligibility criteria for the selection of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship candidates.

Reservation Policy in NET Selection Process

Candidates who fulfill the UGC NET reservation criteria will be given an advantage in the selection process of the National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC. Below we have mentioned the percentage of reserved seats for different categories. This will help you understand the UGC NET Reservation Policy.

  1. For OBC Category Students- 27%
  2. For ST Category Students- 7.5%
  3. For SC Category Students- 15%
  4. For PwD Category Students- 4%
  5. For EWS Category Students- 10%

UGC NET Selection Criteria for Lectureship

Only 6% of incoming candidates pass the exam and qualify as an assistant professor. Category-wise reservation policy will be applicable for these 6% qualified candidates.
