How many Selection stages for XAT

The selection process for XAT 2026 consists of three stages:

1. XAT Exam: The first stage is the XAT exam, which is usually held in the first week of January. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions from four sections - Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. The duration of the exam is three hours.

2. Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI): Candidates who clear the XAT exam are shortlisted for the second stage, which is a group discussion and personal interview. The GD and PI are conducted by XLRI and other participating institutes. Candidates are evaluated on various parameters such as communication skills, problem-solving abilities, leadership qualities, and overall personality.

3. Final Selection: The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in the XAT exam, GD, and PI. The weightage given to each component may vary from institute to institute. The final selection is usually announced in April.

XAT 2026: Important Dates

The XAT 2026 exam will be held on January 4, 2026, conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur. The XAT 2026 registration process will begin between July and December 2025, followed by the admit card download in December 2025. After the exam, the XAT answer key 2026 will be released in January, along with the XAT 2026 result and cut offs. XAT Selection Procedure 2026: Program-wise Criteria for XLRI Admissions

The XAT selection procedure runs as per the participating institute. The selection rounds include GD and PI rounds. The program-wise choice criteria for XLRI is given below:

Post Graduate Diploma in Management- Business Management (PGDM-BM): 

• Stage 1: Shortlisting based on XAT score
• Stage 2: Personal Interview (PI). The PI typically lasts for 15-20 minutes.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management- Human Resources Management (PGDM- HRM):

Shortlisting based on XAT score.

Personal Interview (PI). The PI typically lasts for 15-20 minutes.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management- General Management (PGDM-GM/ Ex-PGDM):

Stage 1: Shortlisting based on XAT or GMAT score.

Stage 2: Personal Interview (PI), in person, or over G-Talk/ Skype for overseas candidates.

PGDM (BM), Part-Time (JSR):

Stage 1: Shortlisting based on a talent test (which consists of class 10th-level questions on quantitative ability, English language skills, and logical reasoning). Students may be required to provide the scores of credible MBA examinations in which they may have appeared.

Stage 2: Personal Interview (PI) at XLRI Jamshedpur

Post Graduate Diploma in Management-Global MBA (PGDM- GMBA):

Shortlisting based on XAT or GMAT score.

XAT 2026 Group Discussion

The Group Discussion (GD) is an important component of the selection process for the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). It is conducted by XLRI and other participating institutes to evaluate the communication skills, leadership qualities, and problem-solving abilities of the candidates. The GD is usually held after the XAT exam and candidates who clear the exam are shortlisted for this stage. Here are some tips to ace the XAT Group Discussion:

1. Be Confident: Confidence is the key to success in any GD. Speak clearly and confidently, and maintain eye contact with the other participants. Avoid using filler words such as umm, aah, etc., as they can give a negative impression to the evaluator.

2. Listen Carefully: Listen carefully to what the other participants are saying, and do not interrupt them. Analyze their points and try to build on them. This shows that you are a good listener and can work well in a team.

3. Stay Focused: Stick to the topic and avoid going off on a tangent. Do not deviate from the topic and try to bring the discussion back on track if it goes off-topic.

4. Be Logical: Use logical arguments to support your point of view. Avoid emotional arguments as they can weaken your argument. Use examples and statistics to support your arguments.

5. Respect Others: Respect the opinions of others and do not get into arguments. Be polite, even if you disagree with someone. This shows that you are a good team player and can work well in a team.

6. Stay Calm: Keep your cool and do not get agitated if someone disagrees with you. Stay calm and composed and present your arguments clearly and concisely.
