The Delhi High Court will proceed to hear the sequence of petitions today April 9, 2025, challenging the CLAT 2025 results. As the counseling process is suspended, the court judgment is expected to play a significant role in determining the course of action for CLAT 2025 admissions.
The Delhi High Court will continue hearing the petitions concerning the CLAT 2025 results on Wednesday, April 9. A division bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela is hearing the case. The bench remarked on Monday that the Consortium of NLUs should "have better paper setters in the future" so that it would not commit such an error in the exam.
During the last hearing, the Delhi High Court considered the issues raised by petitioners relating to the CLAT UG 2025 examination and some of their subsequent withdrawal of challenges. The court had instructed the lawyers representing the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) to present a counter-affidavit in two weeks.
The bunch of petitions was shifted to a division bench of the Delhi High Court by the Supreme Court to avoid conflicting judgments in different jurisdictions. The apex court had initially considered shifting the case to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, observing that the first challenge to the CLAT 2025 answer key had been made there.
However, the Consortium of NLUs had requested the Supreme Court to consolidate all CLAT-related petitions before it or allow them to a particular High Court. The Consortium had also asked for the transfer of all pleas related to the CLAT 2025 results from different High Courts to the apex court given the possibility of contradictory judgments.
A candidate who had appeared before the Delhi High Court had apprised the bench that there were pending petitions in various High Courts and transfer applications would be made in the Supreme Court. Both the candidates and the Consortium had objected to the earlier interference by the Delhi HC, with the Consortium saying that a single-judge bench could not have intervened in cases related to the answer key, which was made by subject experts.
Applicants can refer to the below table to learn how their score could be altered by the change of answer key of the two questions (Q. no 14 and 100). Alteration of the score of the candidate will affect the position of the candidate in the merit list.
The Delhi HC will have a crucial role to play in deciding if the results are to be revised. Earlier, on December 20, 2024, a single-judge bench of the Delhi HC found errors in two questions (14 and 100 in Set A) and ordered the consortium to revise the results. The consortium challenged this order, but the division bench did not find any obvious error in the single judge order. If the court decides in favor of the petitioners today, then the CLAT 2025 results are indeed going to be recalculated, affecting candidates' ranks and the counseling schedule to follow. Nevertheless, the CLAT 2025 results are going to be recalculated by recalculating scores of at least two questions, affecting rankings and pushing back the NLU admissions.
