Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) started with Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust as the first self-funded engineering college in Tamil Nadu in 1984 by Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan. The fund then founded the Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in 1989. Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital was first recognized as a university by the MHRD in July 2002, in section3 of the UGC Act of 1956, and placed under the jurisdiction of the new trust of the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER).

Residential Accommodation
The BIHER attaches great importance to the well-being of its students. It has fully equipped separate facilities for boys and girls. It has 6 hostel blocks with compound walls and landscaped gardens. All hostel blocks are well connected by roads. The treatment of the RO water system meets the water needs of the hostel. The sewage system is fully functional.
5 hostels are located in the BIHER campus. There are 4 boys' hostels and 1 girls' hostel, accommodating 1470 students in single, double, and triple rooms with and without air conditioning. There are 12 air-conditioned rooms in the boys' hostel and 10 air-conditioned rooms in the girls' hostel. Individual metering services are also provided for those who want air conditioning systems. Postgraduate students have a separate block of hostels. Each block has a separate gym, library, laundry facilities, and internet center. Each floor of the hostels has a TV with a cable connection. Optional laundry services are provided in separate, well-maintained laundry areas. Additionally, we provide a men's lounge for the boys.

The BIHER Library was established in the year 1984 with three main branches of Engineering as Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Science Engineering. Gradually it has grown up in all dimensions in terms of collections and services. The library caters to the needs of the faculty, Students, and Research Scholars. Books related to these disciplines were added to this library initially. Bharath University Library has a seating capacity of Six Hundred.
Sports
Providing Special sponsors for the students who are participating in state level and national level tournaments. Provide 50% sponsorship to students participating in district-level tournaments. Special training for cricket, volleyball, and basketball. Free yoga training was offered to athletic students.
Transportation
The Institution provides transport facilities from almost all parts of the city. There is no need to worry about going to college.
