The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Bharathidasan University (BDU) was established in the year 1992 to serve students who could not enter regular colleges for higher education. As the educational programmes offered and the degrees awarded through distance mode are on par with the regular mode, qualitatively there is a demand for the programmes offered by the CDE of Bharathidasan University. The Centre for Distance Education offers around 60 programmes including 12 UG, 21 PG, 06 Diploma / Certificate Programmes and 7 Professional Programmes in select disciplines including MCA and MBA programmes.

Besides the conventional courses, the Centre for Distance Education is offering programmes in Computer Science and Applications, Information Technology, E-Commerce, Bank Management, Financial Management, Library and Information Science, Animation etc. The laboratory-oriented programmes are meticulously planned and executed with the same vigour as regular programmes, without compromising the practical requirements. The Centre for Distance Education conducts theory and practical classes on Saturdays and Sundays. The conduct of the programmes is strictly monitored by the staff of the Centre for Distance Education and the Director through regular visits to the Personal Contact Programme (PCP) centres.

Scholarship:

The institute offers scholarships to SC/ ST students who are studying in PCP centres, provided approval is received from the State Government of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, a fee concession of 10% in tuition fee is offered to PG students who have completed their UG at Bharathidasan University. A 100% exemption of tuition fees in all courses is offered to Differently Abled candidates by the institute. The candidates are required to produce a copy of the identity card issued by the Differently Abled Welfare Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu for the same at the time of the admission process.

Bharathidasan University has launched the Student Support System Portal for the welfare of the students of the Centre for Distance and Online Education. The CDOE Student Support System Portal aims to help students in various ways, such as enquiries about admissions, programmes offered, fee structures, and class details, and addressing grievances related to courses, examinations, marks, results, certificates etc.

Complaint Handling Mechanism:

Guidelines prescribed in the UGC DEB Regulations 2020, are given on the University website. Learners can submit their queries/grievances through this online portal. The Learners can view the status of the queries/grievances submitted by them through this portal.

Placement:

The placement facilities are good and those whose performance in their academics is excellent will get priority in placement. Most of the students get placement and the college organises some career counselling sessions for students to help them during placement.
