YSP Solan is a Himalayan horticulture and forestry university that was first established in 1962, and later became a specialized university in 1985. The university is now spread over 5.5 square kilometers of the Nauni area and provides a pollution-free environment for the education of the students. The YSP Solan is considered one of the best institutions in the field of agriculture and allied sectors and is also affiliated with UGC, ICAR, and ICFRE. The university consists of the following constituent colleges: Horticulture, Forestry, Horticulture and Forestry (Neri, Hamirpur), and Horticulture Research and Extension (Mandi). It has 10 hostels (5 for girls, 4 for boys, 1 for international students), AC lecture halls, modern laboratories, auditorium, library, and sports facilities.

YSP Solan Cutoff
YSP Solan follows a clear set of rules while calculating its cutoff, which is dependent on merit and the availability of reserved seats for different categories of students. Admission to undergraduate programmes like BSc (Hons) Horticulture and Forestry will usually find his/her name in the merit/preference order with a condition of at least 50 to 60% marks in science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics) at the 10+2 level, with a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC categories. After that, students are selected on the basis of merit lists or through entrance examinations for ICAR AIEEA etc. In the last few years, while reservation has been the norm, the cutoff at YSP Solan for the general category has reached 10.435.

YSP Solan Scholarships
YSP Solan offers scholarships during academic programs to provide financial support to students who are academically good but financially weak. For graduates, there are ICAR National Talent Scholarships and College Merit Scholarships, apart from memorial scholarships like Dr. OP Awasthi for boys and Kanti Devi Awasthi for girls. For PG students, University Merit Scholarships and HP Dilomil Stipend are awarded. PhD holders are getting a merit scholarship of INR 5,000/month and a stipend of INR 2,500/month, and in addition, the ICAR/CSIR Senior Fellowship is another option that doctoral students can avail.
