Govt. College of Engineering Kannur was established in 1986 as a center for imparting quality engineering education in northern Kerala. It is affiliated to Kannur University. The college is functioning in a large 75-acre unified academic complex, having sound and self-sufficient infrastructure. There are 3 research centers offering Ph.D. programs in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering under Kannur University. Doctoral programs are also offered at Kerala Technological University.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Computer Center:

CCF is a centralized Computer Centre for the staff and students of this college. CCF is maintaining and manages the Campus networking and Internet Facility. It acts as the nodal center for all the information technology resources of the Institute. It involves the design, installation, and maintenance of the IT infrastructure including the network, software resources, and IT-enabled services and facilities. The CCF coordinate and Deliver Facility Management offerings to give up customers on campus like DigitalLibrary, Online Journals, e-Books, Remote magnificence rooms, Courses of NPTEL, Video Lecture facility, etc.

Centre for Automation and Control:

Centre for Automation and Control, An interdisciplinary initiative by the Department of Electrical & electronics engineering organizing the seventh batch of intensive training programs on PLC & SCADA programming. The Centre for Automation & Control was established in 2017 to promote educational and research activities in the field of automation and control systems.

Gathering Halls :

The college has 2 open-air auditoriums with a seating capacity of about 1000-1500. In addition to this, there is a community auditorium with a seating capacity of 1200 in which all the academic, professional, and cultural gatherings are held. The main blocks also have a separate conference hall aimed the administrative purposes. Departmental blocks have their own seminar halls. All seminar halls are equipped with the latest technology-based audio-visual systems, excellent furniture, and equipment.

Sports Facilities :

GCEK believes in poised personalities and that is why we have been provided with the best sports facilities. This sector includes facilities and playgrounds for sports events viz cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, and also indoor games like shuttle badminton, table tennis, caroms, and chess. Students can use the multi-functional gym for caring for their health and fitness. The main ground is also the venue for the track and field events of annual sports.

Canteen :

The college canteen is run on a co-operative basis from 1995 onwards, with the active involvement of students and staff.

Placement

The Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU) of the college is headed by the Placement Coordinator, who is a senior faculty member of the college. Assistant Placement Coordinator who is also a faculty member will assist the placement coordinator in day-to-day activities. The Cell has at least two student representatives from all classes, among whom student coordinators are elected for activities like placement drives, training, alumni interaction, and the preparation of placement brochures.

Admission

Candidate with a pass in the pre-degree examination of the universities in Kerala state with mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as optional subjects, or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto, securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics, and 50%marks in mathematics, physics, and chemistry put together are eligible for admission.
