In the decade of the fifties, when access to higher education for women was limited by social factors, the State Government took the pioneering step of establishing a college exclusively for women in Raipur in 1958. Rajeshri Vaishnav Das ji Mahant, Hon’ble Head of Shri Dudhadhari Math Raipur came forward to contribute a land parcel of 4.47 acres within the city area for the establishment of the College, which has been named after his Hon’ble Guru and former head of the Math Rajeshri Dudh-adhari Bajrang Das Ji Mahant. Hon’ble Math had also contributed an amount of Three Lakh One Hundred and One Rupee along with a large parcel of cultivated land sizing three hundred and one acres to ensure the adequacy of resources for the noble cause of women’s education.

The College had been initially affiliated to the University of Sagar, and later to Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University Raipur since 1971. The college has been granted the status of an Autonomous Institution since 1988 and recognized as a ‘’College with Potential for Excellence” in 2010. In the Golden Jubilee Year of its foundation in 2008, the first Woman President of India Hon’ble Smt Pratibha Devi Singh Patil blessed the Institution with her visit, which was a rare honour for any College in the State. The college has the distinction of being the only Institution in the state chosen by the University Grants Commission to establish a Centre dedicated to Women related issues in Chhattisgarh. The “Women Study Centre” has come into existence since April 1st, 2016.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Library Facility:

The college is a ‘Golden Treasury’ in the form of a rich library with almost 63,022 Books, 57 National and International Journals and a number of magazines and newspapers. The library runs with the technical support of SOUL 2.0 software. Study material in Braille is made available for visually- challenged students. The library is equipped with computers, and printers and the library has a membership of N-list journals and Delnet. Free Internet access and paid photocopy facility are available.

Reading Room Facility:

A spacious and well-furnished Reading Room is situated at the college. It also contains a Computer Centre with an internet facility. It provides a conducive atmosphere for the students to read their study materials and books and also engage in the task of writing their assignments and projects. The rules and regulations governing the conduct of students in the Reading Room will be informed to the students at the beginning of the academic year.

Auditorium Facility:

An auditorium with a seating capacity of over 1000 has been standing for 63 years at College. As a pioneer of such a facility, the state of this auditorium had witnessed many memorable events including a visit by the First Women President of India Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil to commemorate the Golden Jubilee year (2008) of the establishment of this college. This was the first occasion for any academic institution of Chhattisgarh, to have the privilege of greeting the President.

Seminar Hall Facility:

The college has a well-furnished adequately spacious and magnificent Seminar Hall with a sitting capacity of 150+ students at a time. The Hall is well equipped with all smart facilities . Renowned academicians and intellectuals of different spheres are invited to address students and teaching staff on various subjects, topics of academic and other co-related pursuits with a view to widening the horizon of knowledge of the students and the staff as well. Seminars and Workshops including competitive programmes related to various academic spheres are also organized to give exposure and nurture their talents and to promote the overall development of the students.

Hostel Facility:

Entering through a magnificent secured gate of the college campus, one is drawn towards four hostels which are home for those who are away from their home, The lush green cover of plants and trees provides a serene atmosphere to the students since 1962, the hostel has served as the second home for the girls of this tribal state. The hostel environment has successfully brought together the traditional tribal culture of rural Chhattisgarh with the modern scientific temper of urban India.

Gym Facility:

Our college was looking for ways to increase physical activity before or after college time so college hosted an open gym! The gymnasium is available to students, and staff members to play pick-up sports such as basketball or volleyball, participate in fitness stations, run laps, etc. Opening it had helped significantly to increase the daily physical activity of the students. Having an open gym in our college allows for a safe space for students to be physically active.

Canteen Facility:

The objective of the Canteen and meal service is to protect by reducing the risk of foodborne illness, with proper sanitary conditions, and preventing adulterated food at a reasonable price. From the very beginning of the College, the College Canteen has been functioning efficiently. The canteen is located inside the College. The hostellers and day scholars are provided meals to assuring food safety and quality. The students, who come from faraway places, start their journey to the College early in the morning. Even many day scholars use canteen facilities for their breakfast and evening tea with snacks. Presently there are 700 students in the four hostels of the College.
