Government Polytechnic Jammu is one of the oldest Diploma Engineering Institute in the nation. The Institution was awarded the Centre of Excellence Award in 1999. Since its beginning in 1960 until the present, courses relating to industry and market requirements have been offered periodically. Library

This Polytechnic is a treasure trove of General Books, Learning Resources Centre (LRC), Reference Books as well as books related to the current syllabus for J&K SBOTE. The capacity of seating is being increased to accommodate a large number of students. Students can also utilize libraries.

The Library currently has more than 21583 volumes. The Library is open to students for one month upon presentation of an ID card valid for college. The library is divided into two halls, namely. the Books Section and the Reading Room Section.

Hostel Facilities

The institution is equipped with the services of a hostel that is designed for the board of male students. The hostel is comprised of six dormitories and 40 rooms The capacity of the hostel is around 130. It's only about 2 minutes' walk from the central campus.

The hostel has the basic amenities. Every room is equipped with ceiling fans. The dining area is well-appointed and has a spacious hall, TV rooms, spaces for games, recreation, and so on. The hostel is surrounded by lush green lawns and is full of trees like Chinar, Palm, etc. The hostel is equipped with a 24/7, specialized energy supply. Alongside a normal PHE connection, a hand pump is in place to help with the water crisis. It is a great environment for studying because the hostel is situated a few meters from the surrounding residential areas.

Auditorium

The auditorium of the Govt. Polytechnic Jammu is one of the most impressive auditoriums in Jammu city. It can seat over 250 people. It is air-conditioned and comes with all audio-visual equipment as well as a proper lighting system and excellent sound quality. It's also equipped with a 40KVA generator, in the event there is a power outage at the time of event.

The auditorium is often used for student-centered activities (SCA) including seminars, extension lectures, awareness lectures, debate contests, debates, etc. The auditorium also has a stunning lawn right in front. Guest House

The guest house of Govt. The Polytechnic comprises four rooms, a conference hall, a kitchen, and a few open spaces. The rooms are air-conditioned and are equipped with facilities such as geysers, TV, etc. The conference room has a capacity of around 25 people and is equipped with a PA system. It is a Guest House. Guest House can be hired by private or Government organizations on a pay-per-use basis. The preferred choice is guests of the institution.

Placement

Government Polytechnic Jammu established a Training and Placement Cell in the years 2002-2003. Its Training and Placement Cell arranges numerous campus interviews for candidates for various professions that are part of Diploma Engineering. Since the beginning, several students from the Institution have been employed in different industries within the State and outside of the State. Its Training and Placement Cell members are responsible for the overall management of campus interviews within the institution.

Since the launching of UDAAN in 2010 youngsters from Jammu and Kashmir have had a great chance to develop and expand their careers. UDAAN is a specific initiative aimed at connecting the ambitious and forward-thinking youth in Jammu as well as Kashmir with the very best corporations in India. As part of the Special Industry Initiative of the Prime Minister and the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Ministry of Home Affairs have been given the task of working alongside the corporate sector to bring about positive changes in the skills and employment area in Jammu as well as Kashmir.
