The Mahendra Educational Trust was founded in the year 1978 by Sri M.G. Bharathkumar, a renowned educationist with the objective of imparting a high standard of education to rural children. The Trust is located at Kalippatti mid-way between Salem and Tiruchengode. Thiru. M.G. Bharathkumar, The Chairman of the Trust is assisted by the governing and advisory councils in matters of policy, mission, development, and planning for the continual improvement in imparting higher education. Mrs.B.Valliyammal Bharathkumar, the best teacher awardee, is the Secretary of the Trust. Mr.Ba.Mahendhiran and Mr.Maha Ajay Prasath, are the Managing Directors.

The Mahendra Arts & Science College was started in the academic year 1999-2000 with the affiliation of Periyar University, Salem. It is a magnificent institution with all the needed facilities and required equipment. It has got a well-established library, well-equipped laboratories, spacious playgrounds, transport and above all, well qualified and dedicated staff members. All of these together help to impart a high standard of education to the rural community.

Research Facilities

Tamil, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Commerce departments have been recognized as Research departments by Periyar University. English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biotechnology departments are recognized as Research Departments by Annamalai University from 2004-2005.

Buildings

At the start of the college, only the Arts Block was in existence and subsequently, the Biotechnology Block, spacious and well-designed laboratories were also added. Presently the infrastructure facilities existing in these laboratories are enough to take up high-tech research. A new block, namely the round block has been designed to accommodate the library and Computer laboratory. A new block is under construction exclusively for the Department of Biosciences.

Fee Regulations

Every student shall be able to pay the fee in full for the year if he attended classes in a semester or part of a semester and as long as his name is not struck off from the rolls. The tuition fees are to be paid by the students in four equal installments as per the schedule either without or with a fine which may be prescribed by the admission committee. The names of the students who have not paid the fees even on the last day fixed for the payments with fines will be removed from the rolls.

Scholarships

Backward class scholarships, Adi Dravidar Welfare scholarships, National Loan scholarships, State Loan scholarships, and a few merit scholarships are made available to eligible students. Eligible students belonging to a backward community, Scheduled castes, and Scheduled Tribes can apply through the college for sanction of scholarships. The college administration is taking utmost care in getting the sanction from the officials concerned for the applicants. Besides, a number of students are receiving scholarships from private Trusts and agencies with the help of the college administration.

Transport

The college has seventy-Five buses to take students and staff members to the college from Salem, Erode, Namakkal, and Rasipuram.

Hostel

The final year students are facilitated to do project work inside the campus and also in reputed companies. There are two hostels -one each for Boys and Girls. The Principal, the Ex-officio warden, the deputy warden, the Resident tutors, and Hostel superintendent, and hostel staff under the direct control of the Chairman support the hostels and the attached messes. The application for hostel accommodation should be submitted in the prescribed form. Hostel accommodation will be provided to the extent available. The hostel fee in respect of room rent is payable for each academic year, while the mess bill is collected at monthly intervals.

Placement

Over the years, the Mahendra College of Arts and Science placement cell has successfully placed students in many reputed companies. Wipro, HCL, and Infosys are regulars at the recruitment drives and students have benefited from the assistance provided by the placement cell. The placement cell of the college is headed by the principal and the placement cum training officer who make up the core team of the MCAS placement cell. They are in a continuous effort to build industry relationships so as to facilitate career and placement opportunities for the students. Under their guidance and support, students have been able to grab wonderful opportunities for themselves.
