Mizoram University is a Central University of India. It was established in the year 2001 by Act no 8 of 2000. The act was passed in 2000; however, the University was created in 2001. The University has consistently improved its ranking over the years. Initially starting operating from rented spaces presently, the University call’s a 979-acre land its home. 

Most of the departments have moved and settled to the permanent campus at Aizawl; however, few departments are yet to shift permanently. The students of the University perform excellently, enabling the University to publish more than 900 books, 1300+ research papers, and numerous journals. The University also operates on a choice-based system (CBCS) which enables students to be more selective about their studies. The University currently has 35 affiliated colleges under its wings. Colleges like Aizawl Government College and St. Xavier’s College, Lengpui, fall under the jurisdiction of MZU (Mizoram University). 

Courses offered

Mizoram University (MZU) presently offers 104 courses across 49 departments from its nine schools of studies. Courses offered are at undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral Levels. Namely, some of the popular courses are:

Infrastructure

The University has a proper infrastructure ecosystem in place. Thus requirements like a medical emergency or physical activity in the gymnasium are all available to the students. Additionally, by and large, the University focuses on improving the infrastructure further to achieve its desired results.

Central Library

The state-of-the-art Library at MZU owned numerous praises and accolades from NAAC. The library also is renown among the best library in Eastern India. The library is eco-friendly and disabled person friendly too. Thus making the library stand out among its peers. To hosting numerous Journal papers, e-books, and physical books, the library also has a number of modern touches at its disposal. To put it differently, it comes equipped with facilities like RFID, WebOPAC, Self Service check-in, and computerized braille for blind students.

Sports

There are two major sports events held each year in the university one is the Inter-college Sports event, and the other is the universities own annual sports day event. Besides these events, the University has facilities like a gym, football ground, basketball court, and table tennis court. These facilities, coupled with motivated sportsmanship among the students, have gained University places at the regional and national levels.

Health Centre

Besides having three doctors and four nurses, the medical facility has six more staff operating in different capacities to provide excellent emergency response and quick treatment. Thus the facility provides for mini operations and varied types of tests. Besides all these, the facility also acts as an excellent medical team during sports and events (to treat injuries during Inter College or annual sports).

Placement

Mizoram University provides placements to eligible students. Every academic year placement drives are conducted by the Mizoram University, where various private firms, governmental organizations, and industries take part and fill their vacancies. Leading companies like Wipro, and PowerGrid take part in the placement drives. Moreover, internships are also provided to the students and they are paid with a fair stipend as well. 

Scholarship

The university provides various scholarships to students. Some of the scholarships are mentioned below:

Rajiv Gandhi SC/ST scholarship: INR 16,000 per month for JRF and INR 18,000 per month for SRF

MZU-UGC fellowship for non-NET Ph.D. students: The students will be awarded INR 8,000 per month

MZU-UGC fellowship for non-NET M.Phil. students: The students will be awarded INR 5,000 per month

Mizoram University takes admission through JEE Main, MZUEEE, NATA, and merit-based.
