About Madras School Of Economics Chennai

Recognizing the academic excellence of the Madras School of Economics (MSE) over the past 25 years, the Government of Tamil Nadu has enactedMadras School of Economics Act 2020 and provided  “Institute of Special Importance” status effective April 2021. Now, MSE has the power to issue its own degrees, diplomas, etc. in Economics and Related Subjects and Management. The University Grants Commission has included MSE in the list of institutions established under the State Legislature Act on its website.

MSE has also obtained the approval of AICTE (Ministry of Human Resources) and launched two postgraduate programs in finance and research & amp; Business analysis in 201819. It has been recognized by the ministry as a center of excellence in environmental economics Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, and as the Envis Center of the Ministry. In recognizing his academic services over the past 25 years, the government of Tamil Nadu has accepted the status of Institute of Special Importance for MSEs from April 1, 2021.

Residential Accommodation

MSE offers well-designed, spacious, and well-maintained hostels for boys and girls. This hostel is located in the middle of the green campus with separate buildings for boys and girls. The hostel is designed to be a self-contained unit with its own kitchen, dining room, reading room/library, television, and telephone.WIFI connectivity is provided which helps students access online educational resources. Most of the students come from different parts of the country and form a close-knit family within the hostel. Special menus are served during holidays. A good water system is provided in the building. Many indoor activities are planned for the students. A separate lounge is there for visitors.

Library

MSE library has over 20,005 volumes, which includes 9943 Books, 5449 Reports, 358 Theses,3337 Working Paper, 111 Occasional Paper, 807 Discussion Paper, and subscribes to more than 100 national and international journals. The card catalog is computerized using the LIBSYS software. The MSE Library has been included in the IMF's Depository Library Program. Its referral services include access to JSTOR supported by the Ford Foundation Anderson Lit, which is the indexed bibliography produced by the American Economic Association. Bibliographic details of books, journals, reports, and databases on CD-ROM are accessible via a campus-wide network. The online public access catalog has been installed in the section of the journal intended for general users.

Computer Lab

All computers are connected to robust, network-tuned Compaq / HP servers via campus-wide 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet-based LAN with a strong network backbone and high-speed switches and routers. The institution has a full intranet, internal mail, internal instant messaging, and alert system, which helps users communicate with each other on campus. The processing center is fully equipped with the latest peripherals such as CDWriter, and tape drives for data backup. A high-resolution HP True Color scanner meets user needs in the extraction of data from printed documents and in the creation of multimedia and graphic-rich presentations. The institute has a wide range of LCD projectors, slides, and overhead projectors for any type of presentation. Several HP LaserJet printers are available to faculty, staff, and students.
