The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is the primary countrywide degree institute in pharmaceutical sciences with a proclaimed goal of turning into a center of excellence for superior research and studies in pharmaceutical sciences. The Government of India has declared NIPER as an 'Institute of National Importance. It is a self-sustaining frame set up beneath neath the aegis of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

Admission to the PG courses follows an online process and is determined by the merit secured in the Entrance Exam (NIPER JEE). Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant stream corresponding to their desired course.
For Ph.D. programs, admission is contingent upon marks obtained in NIPER-JEE, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

NIPER Guwahati allocates scholarships to students based on their performance in the NIPER JEE exam and funding availability. Master's students maintaining a minimum CGPA of 6 in each semester are entitled to a stipend of Rs. 12,400. Ph.D. students holding M.Tech, M.S, and M.Pharm degrees receive Rs. 25,000 monthly for the initial two years, with an increment to Rs. 28,000 monthly from the third year onwards. These scholarships alleviate financial burdens, enabling students to focus on their academic pursuits and excel in their respective fields of study.
