NIT Manipur commenced its first consultation on the second of August 2010 with the simplest 3 branches of Engineering namely - Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Computer Science & Engineering at Government Polytechnic, Takyelpat Campus. The institute has each Boys' hostel and Girls' hostel facilities. Presently there are a Boys' hostel and one Girl's hostel. However, seats are constrained at present.
