Earlier, the university was known as Presidency College. Its chemistry department is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to the mid-19th century. Some illustrious alumni of the department include Sir Alexander Pedler, Upendranath Brahmachari, and Pulin Behari Sarkar. These three men and women are considered to be among the greatest scientists of all time.
The faculty and facility of Presidency University was founded by eminent teachers and researchers in the late nineteenth century. The University has been recognized as a world-class research center since its founding. Its founders envisioned a place where people can question everything they learn. The university has an excellent infrastructure and over 2000+ students studying in different disciplines. The university also has PhDs teaching in various fields. In addition to these academics, the curriculum is designed to meet the needs of industry, allowing students to get hands-on experience while they learn. The courses offered by the Presidency University include UG and PG Courses. The first year is dedicated to developing a solid foundation for future study. From the second year onwards, students take electives and core courses that help them achieve their educational goals.
During your time in the university, you will have to live in the hostels of the Presidency University. You will be accommodated in rooms that are furnished, and there is a mess hall. You can also enjoy hygienic, healthy food in the canteen. The three hostels in the campus are separate for boys and girls. Located in a prime location, they provide a good place for students to live and study. The dormitory environment fosters co-operation and goodwill among the students, and fosters a climate for student activities. The campus is well-maintained, with rooms and common areas designed for socializing, studying, and relaxing. The campus has a Hostel Committee that oversees the hostels, and each department is represented by one.
