Consequent upon the decision, taken by Govt. of India in 1985, to tender a valuable, yet humble tribute to the everlasting memory of the revered saint, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology took its shape. The institute was established by Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Govt. of India in the year 1989 and was formally inaugurated on 20th December 1991. Accepting the new challenge of new education policy, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET) was established, with a vision to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics. It is committed to provide best possible technical education and to cater to the technical manpower requirements with emphasis on practical training in industry.
The Institute of Engineering of Sant Longowal and Technology is a public engineering institute. It was set up in 1898 as an institution of higher education. The Indian government has shortened the name of the institute (SLIET). The institute is located at SLIET Road, Longowal, Sangrur, Punjab, India.
The government of Punjab offers the institution an area of 451 acres. Lush green plants surround the entire campus. Therefore, the foliage areas keep the air quality fresh and relaxing. Overall, the SLIET campus offers a combination of natural green plants with an aesthetically appealing view of the campus.
NIRF ranks SLIET 137th among other engineering colleges in India in 2020. The institute was declared a deemed university in 2006 and approved by UGC, NAAC with a grade of A+.
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology courses are offered at various levels like Undergraduate Degree (i.e. B.Tech. in CSE, B.sc in Physics, etc.), Postgraduate Degree (i.e. M. Tech. in Civil Eng., M.Sc. in Mathematics, etc.). Universities try to provide as much infrastructure as possible. Facilities that spark a deep hobby in students are great to have on campus. Facilities like snug lodging facilities, enough library resources, leisure activities, healthcare facilities, etc., attract students' attention. Therefore, universities preserve the priorities of the minds of young people.
The campus is too clean and full of green plants. In addition, it has well-kept hostels, a swimming pool, a cafe, a sports complex, etc. Thus, students use their free time by swimming, playing any sport, or eating good food. There are 185 members representing different disciplines wherein 95 members out of 185 hold a Ph.D. degree. Besides that, the faculty members are also very cooperative. Hence, students find them accessible enough to dispel their doubts.
Residential Accommodation:
The campus offers separate hostels for each girl and each boy. Additionally, there are sixteen hostels in total. They offer 5/3 person rooms for undergraduate students. They also provide 1/3 bedrooms for children belonging to the primary year. The institute has 2-bed rooms for boys completing their final year. On the other hand, SLIET offers girls 4 hostels.
Library:
There is a huge type of book. Books that can be associated with fields such as technology, literature, management, etc., are without problems on hand to college students. Also, it offers many national and global magazines. The institute additionally installs 30 computer systems permitting college students to have access to e-resources. Apart from this it also has modern arrangements of plasma TV, MMP, slide projector, etc. Therefore, university students identify the library facilities as quite specific and modernized.
Medical Facilities:
The multifarious wishes associated with the health of the SLIET campus populace such as students, faculty & staff individuals, and individuals in their households are met through the SLIET Health Centre. The health center is headed by the Chairperson with a crew of Medical Officers, Counselors, Para Medical Staff, and MTS individuals. Ambulance services are provided free of charge to such students, staff, and their dependents at all times they have been referred for treatment to the Government/ Empanelled Hospitals by MO of Health Centre. The ambulance is allowed in emergent cases only.
Sports Facilities:
The purpose of Sports Facilities is to satisfy the changing desires of university students. Each school ensures that its students are also in good physical and mental health. The SLIET presents to its university students all the fundamental centers desired by each student. Hence, college students live happily with the institute’s sports activities activities.
Admissions to all courses are entrance-based. SLIET also conducts its exam, ie. SET for admissions to certain courses.
The placement records are great as in step with the college students. It is modified each year. Overall, the placement unit brings businesses to campus. Therefore, students can choose to appear for large multinationals.

SLIET shall strive to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics through formal and non formal education, entrepreneurship and research to meet the changing need of society.
