SBRR Mahajana First Grade College is at an epochal moment in its cherished history, since it was founded in 1982, born as an offspring of Mahajana Education Society (1937). It started as a Women’s College offering B.A and B.Com programmes and was admitted to the Grant-in-aid scheme in the year 1987, and in 1988 became a co-educational institution. As the college made rapid strides, being committed to academic excellence and qualitative development, B.Sc. programme was introduced in the year 1988, BBM programme was started in 1994, followed by Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry combinations in B.Sc. in 2004. The BCA programme was introduced in 2008.

The institution has excelled both in terms of infrastructure development and in the quality of education that is imparted. It is affiliated with the University of Mysore and has been accredited thrice by the NAAC with Four Star (2001), B++ (2007) and ‘A’ Grade (2015) in the First, Second and Third Cycles respectively. The college has been recognized by the UGC as College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) in 2010 and 2016.

LibraryThe library is housed in a separate wing with an independent Reference Section. It has a collection of 32,064 books, leading journals and periodicals numbering 75 including a few international journals such as Harvard Business Review, National Geography and Political Weekly etc.
In the era of information dissemination, the library has succeeded in upgrading itself to modern technology. The fully automated library has its entire repository bar coded. It is in possession of a digital collection of 850 prized CDs on important subjects. Staff and Students can access e-resources through inflibnet N-List (funded by the Ministry of HRD) and J-gate. This provides access to more than 6,000 e-journals and 97,000 e-books. The students can go through 17 different newspapers and 100-plus magazines and journals.
The institution has two auditoriums: Vivekananda Hall and Silver Jubilee Open Air Theatre. These are well equipped with a public address system and acoustics and cater to the requirements of assemblage on a variety of occasions. The pride of the college is its two state-of-the-art Audio–Visual Centres: AVC – I and AVC – II.
Stadium & GymnasiumThe college has Jagadeesh Prasad Stadium, where facilities for outdoor and indoor sports are provided. It has a Multi-Gymnasium with good instructional facilities. A state-of-the-art Indoor stadium is being planned.
LabsThe college has well-equipped laboratories, rich in facilities, for various disciplines like Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Computer Science, Criminology & Forensic Science, Geography and Psychology. A Business Lab is also set up to facilitate the teaching of Commerce and Management subjects. Language lab is being set up to enhance communication skills among students by offering an add-on course in English grammar usage and phonetics.
Student ParliamentIn the academic year 2006-07, structural reconstruction and re-working of the existing student support units were carried out. A broad-based student parliament was conceived, which saw a systematized selection of Class Representatives (CRs) in the ratio of 1:10 and the appointment of Organizing Secretaries to various committees. Prime Monitor and Deputy Prime Monitor are elected on monthly basis. This resulted in the successful establishment of a student network with deeper penetration, ensuring full-fledged participation of the student community in all the activities. This restructuring has been further reinforced with the establishment of the ASIC committees, which is mandatory for every single student and staff member of the college.
Sports FacilitiesStudents are encouraged to participate in all kinds of sports and games and attain robust physical fitness through sportsmanship. The College regularly holds Annual Athletic meets, and inter-class competitions and hosts the Sri R.V. Ganesh Memorial City Inter-collegiate Volleyball and Sri Rattehalli Ramappa Memorial Throwball tournaments. The college has gained a reputation in the field of sports with its sportspersons winning coveted titles, trophies and championships. It is a matter of pride for the college that its sportsmen and sportswomen have donned the university and the national colours.
