Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University (SSUS) is one of India's pioneering Sanskrit universities in the fields of education, research, and innovation. The university was founded in 1993 in Kalady, Kerala. The main goals of the university are to impart knowledge of Sanskrit, other Indian and foreign languages, social sciences, and fine arts. During its 25 years of existence, the university has grown into one of the most promising research centers in Sanskrit, humanities, social sciences, and visual arts in Kerala.  As an institution absorbing much of the cultural heritage and housing both traditional and modern systems of knowledge and art forms, the university envisions harmonious advancement in society through excellence in education.  

Sanskrit Sree Sankaracharya University has eight regional campuses across Kerala. Most of these campuses are located in rural areas of the state and are designed to serve people from disadvantaged backgrounds. More than ninety percent of the university's students and researchers come from economically and socially disadvantaged communities and families, and more than seventy percent are women. 

Accreditations and Ranking:

The University Grants Commission has recognized the University with 2(f) status in 1993 and 12(B) status in 2005. In 2014 September the University was accredited by NAAC with an A grade, the first University in Kerala to receive the honor in the first cycle of accreditation. In 2021 the University was reaccredited by NAAC with an A+ grade, maintaining the honor that University is the first in Kerala to receive this grade. Recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC).
