St Mary's College, the first women's college in the district of Thrissur, was founded in 1946 in the heart of the thriving commercial town of Thrissur. The Congregation of Mother Carmel (CMC) was a pioneer in higher education inspired by the vision of its founders, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavra. India was fast approaching its long-awaited liberation from British rule, and enthusiasm for a new, reformed society was high. Although many women took part in the freedom struggle, most women in India were still uneducated and illiterate. There were very few opportunities for women to pursue higher education as there were very few women's universities at the time. During this time of need, the CMC congregation established St Mary's College to empower the women of Kerala through education. 

St.College of Mary. The distinctive emblem and motto of Scientia et Disciplina were adopted. The college was officially opened by Sri. George Boag, Divan of Cochin February 9, 1947, Sr.Mary Patience assumed the position of Founder and Principal of the College. Her missionary zeal helped the college to be proud among the women's colleges of Kerala. The college has been able to fulfill its long-cherished dream of providing education to young women in Kerala, with dozens of alumni successfully exiting the college gates each year.  From the very beginning, the college has focused on academic excellence and the academic results of the first batch of students are a testament to that. AND.G Teresa came out first in the Madras Presidency and was awarded the Pitti Muniswami Chetti Guru Gold Medal and the Marsh Prize. L. S. Sarojini won the Godathi Etharajan Memorial Medal of the University for Economics and Radha Devi won the T. Rama Rao Gold Medal of the University for English.

Infrastructure and Facilities:

St. Mary's College has a large and well-maintained campus and offers a tranquil learning environment. Library: 

St. Mary's College Library is the premier public library in the Thrissur district. The library was inaugurated by then Finance Minister Sri PJ Joseph. The college library meets the academic and extracurricular needs of staff and students. The current building of the university library was put into operation on December 19, 1986. The University Library launched an online digital library with the help of a parliamentary fund of Rs. 5,50,000 proposed by Hon Thrissur LSC MP, Sri C.N. Jayadevan among the MPLADS 2015-16. 

Marian Auditorium: 

The Marian Auditorium on the top floor of the College Hostel block opened in 2017. It has 2,000 seats. The auditorium features a well-appointed stage, eye-catching lighting, a high-end sound system, and audio-visual equipment. with 3 projectors, it offers space for academic and extracurricular programs. It also serves as a venue for various sporting events.

Main computer room: 

The Computer Lab is a centrally managed computer programming lab equipped with 52 desktop computers. A dedicated server is used to store the data. Three 7.5kVA UPS units are maintained to protect systems from power failures. The laboratory is divided into PG (MSc Informatics) and UG (BCA) laboratories and is used for teaching, including the implementation of practical activities in accordance with the study program.  On-demand Internet access is available for staff and students. The Technical Lead Service is available every day of the week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The lab is equipped with licensed software such as Microsoft Windows 12 Server, Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office, Oracle 12c, Android Studio, etc. as well as open-source software tools like Ubuntu Linux, Postgresql, WAMP, etc.

St. Mary’s Sports Land: 

Mary's Street Sports Land is located 1.5 miles from the main campus and occupies the 1st floor.83 hectares. It provides space for hockey, kabaddi, kho kho, long jump, and sepak takraw training sessions and for hosting events such as the Annual Sports Meeting and the Marian Cup – All Kerala Intercollegiate Hockey Tournament.  Le Pays des Sports also extends to various sports associations for training camps and competitions.

Canteen: 

The cafeteria is open on campus every weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.30 hours of breakfast, lunch, tea, fresh juice, ice cream, and snacks are included in the price. The canteen offers high-quality food for employees and students at affordable prices. It can accommodate about 50 students at a time. There is a separate bedroom for staff. 

Hostels:

Parents can rest assured that their child is safe and well cared for in a warm and welcoming environment. Of the 2,000 students at St Mary's College in Thrissur, only 230 live in a 90-room building.
