About Mumbai University IDOL

Distance and Open Learning represent a distinctive approach to delivering education to students who face spatial and temporal separation from teachers or educational institutions due to various socioeconomic, cultural, and other factors. Recognizing the significance of this methodology, the University of Mumbai took the initiative and established its Directorate of Correspondence Courses in 1971-72. This Directorate evolved into the Institute of Distance Education in 1993, thereby elevating its status to that of a 'University Institution'.

Admissions at Mumbai University Institute of Distance and Open Learning (MU IDOL) can be initiated through the official website of Mumbai University, where the application form for all programs is readily accessible. The application fee varies according to the chosen program. Prospective candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria stipulated by the university for their desired program. For undergraduate courses, a minimum of 50% marks in class 12 is required, while for master’s programs, applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with at least 50% marks. Ph.D. admissions entail evaluation based on qualifying marks, a university-conducted entrance test, and a subsequent personal interview. Additionally, a relaxation of 5% marks is provided for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories.
