Government College of Engineering, Salem-11, was established as part of the Third Five-year Plan in the year 1966 . It is situated on a land area of 162 acres which is surrounded by hills. GCE, Salem was then known as it was the Third Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu. The first class of students were chosen for the academic period 1966-1967. The institution has 6 programs for UG and PG. The institution is NACC accredited with a B+ grade. B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is NBA accredited. GCE, Salem is a recognized research center within Anna University for Ph.D. as well as M.S., programmes.

State Govt .Scholarship for Backward / Most Backward / Denotified Communities - Rs. 6825/-- (Half fee) and the equivalent of Rs. 5425/(Full Fee) (Full Fee) annually for BC students and MBC/DNC students with parents whose incomes do not exceed 1 lakh annually.
