The Indian Statistical Institute (I.S.I. ) was founded by Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, and was born from the Statistical Laboratory set up by him at the Presidency College in Calcutta. In 1931 the Institute was recognized as a non-profit learned society to promote the development and development of statistical research in India.
