There is a good mix of national and international students on the campus. The undergraduates of NITC are admitted based on JEE (Main) rank. NITC turns out to be a top destination for the higher rank holders of JEE (Main). Students are also admitted through DASA, SII (Foreign Nationals and NRI students), MEA (Welfare) and ICCR scholarship (Foreign Nationals) schemes. The postgraduate students are admitted through centralised counselling by CCMT to M.Tech. Programmes on the basis of GATE scores and by CCMN to M.Sc. programmes based on JAM scores. Admission to MBA programmes is on the basis of CAT score. The student intake per year is about 1400 UG, 760 PG, and 300 PhD. The institute has also started admitting about 200 students for M. Tech, M. Plan. and MSc programmes under the self-sponsored scheme. Currently, the campus has over 7300 students, out of which 850 are doctoral students. The girls constitute roughly 27% of the total students on rolls.
For B.Tech and B.Arch programs, the selection is based on performance in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main) - Paper 1 and Paper 2 respectively. Seats are reserved for different categories as per Government of India norms. The centralized online counseling process is overseen by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for admission to various NITs. A limited number of supernumerary seats (145 seats) are available for Foreign Nationals, Persons of Indian origin (PIOs), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) under the ‘Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA)’ Scheme by the MHRD, with 1/3rd of DASA seats reserved for Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries Information for admission under the DASA/CIWG scheme is available accordingly.
For postgraduate programs, admissions to various PG and Ph.D. programs are conducted by the Office of PG Admissions at NIT Calicut. M.Tech. / M.Plan. program admissions are based on centralized counseling (CCMT) common to all NITs, considering GATE scores and meeting eligibility requirements. Self-sponsored and sponsored categories have limited seats available for these programs.
Additionally, seats for M.Tech./M.Plan. programs are allocated under schemes like Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA), Study In India (SII) program, and Nepal Scholarship Schemes, among others, catering to specific categories of candidates. Admissions to M.Sc. programs (Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics) at NIT Calicut are through the CCMN centralized counseling process based on JAM scores, with provisions for self-sponsored candidates.
The two-year full-time MBA program selection is based on valid CAT scores followed by personal interviews.
