Uploading required documents like a recent passport-size photograph, signature, and category certificate (if submitted) is also compulsory. The application fee is also to be paid online to finalise the process.

To finalise the registration, the prescribed CLAT 2026 application fee must be paid online:

1. ₹4,000 for General/OBC/EWS candidates

2. CLAT 2026 Entrance Exam
   Once they register successfully, the candidates will take the CLAT 2026 entrance examination, which will tentatively be conducted in December 2025. The examination will be held offline (pen-and-paper) mode. For the under-graduate program, the test contains 120 multiple-choice questions from disciplines like English, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Current Affairs, and Quantitative Techniques. 3. Declaration of Results and Merit List
   After the test, the Consortium will declare the results of CLAT 2026 in the form of scorecards and All India Rank (AIR). A merit list will also be declared, indicating the ranks of the candidates belonging to various categories. In the event of a tie in the scores of two or more candidates, tie-breaker criteria like higher Legal Reasoning marks, age, or computerised draw of lots shall be applied.
   
   
4. Counselling Registration
   Shortlisted candidates are required to apply for the centralized counselling process done by the Consortium. In this phase, candidates will pay a counselling fee (₹30,000 for General/OBC/EWS and ₹20,000 for SC/ST candidates) and fill in their order of preference for the NLUs. Participation in this phase alone is required to be eligible for seat allotment.
   
   
5. Seat Allotment Rounds
   Seat allocations are conducted through several rounds (typically five), based on the candidate's CLAT rank, category, and NLU preference. Candidates can be allotted a seat in one of the NLUs in each round. Candidates can accept the seat, float or opt out of the process. Seat allocations are repeated until there are no seats available.
   
   
6. Admission Confirmation and Reporting
   Shortlisted candidates who are offered a seat need to confirm their admission by paying the balance admission fee directly to the NLU to which they are allocated. They also need to upload or submit documents for verification. On completion of this, the candidates need to report to the NLU either in person or through an online portal, as directed by the university. The admission procedure is completed with successful verification and confirmation.
