Shivaji University, situated in Kolhapur and established in 1962, is named after the illustrious Maratha Warrior and founder of the Maratha empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The university was inaugurated on 18th November 1962, by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. Its primary objective was to address the educational needs of South Maharashtra. With jurisdiction over three districts - Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara, and approximately 3,00,000 students enrolled in 280 affiliated colleges and recognized institutes, Shivaji University plays a pivotal role in the region's academic landscape.
