IPGME&R As early as 1707, the first hospital in Calcutta was built on the site of the old fort at Gerstein Place, later moved to its current location and named the Presidential Hospital. (PG Hospital) until 1954 when it was named Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital (SSKM) to commemorate the name of the main donor. 

Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata West Bengal was established in 1957 as a government educational institution to provide higher education for the development of careers in science, medicine, and paramedical practitioners. The Post Graduate Medical Education and Research Institute is supported by the renowned MCI and is affiliated with the WBUHS in Kolkata. Admission Process: 

The rollout of IPGMERs begins in July each year. Students interested in admission to the IPGMER must meet the required admission criteria and achieve the required head start on the entrance exam. Applications are available online at the official website. Candidates who have achieved the required score can choose IPGMER in the consultation process. 

Placements: 

IPGMER offers internships to all final-year students with an appropriate scholarship. However, there is no such recruitment unit for medical colleges as none of these companies visit medical colleges for recruitment. IPGMER, Kolkata offers its students 70% internships in various hospitals and clinics to study and research directly with experienced doctors and gain experience. The highest monthly salary offered during an internship is INR 80,000 and the lowest monthly salary offered is INR 40,000.interns receive an average monthly salary of INR 60,000. In addition, MBBS students completing a one-year compulsory course receive a monthly stipend of INR 25,000. 

Scholarships: 

The Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education and Scientific Research has a Scholarship Committee that assists students in obtaining financial aid. The government organizes various tests and awards scholarships ranging from INR 20,000 to INR 60,000 to students based on their merits. In addition, various scholarships are offered to West Bengal residents from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and women to assist them in pursuing higher education.
