Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are autonomous institutes that provide technical education focused on information technology and communication studies. IIITs have gained popularity among students and are counted among the top colleges after Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). There are a total of 26 IIITs in India, out of which five are listed as institutes of national importance while the remaining 21 IIITs are set up on the public-private partnership (PPP) model. In the NIRF Ranking 2024 released for engineering colleges in India, IIIT Hyderabad has secured the first position and is ranked first among all IIITs. Admission to IIITs in India is based on national level entrance exams. For admission to B.Tech programmes, candidates are required to appear in JEE Main. Entrance exam scores of CAT/CMAT/XAT/MAT/GMAT are accepted for admission to the MBA programme. Admission to the M.Tech programme is based on the entrance exam- GATE.
