The NIFT selection process 2024 is different for all the programs. Selection in BDES programs is done in three rounds of Creative Ability Test (CAT) and a General Ability Test (GAT) followed by a situation test and the selection process for BFTech includes only a General Ability Test (GAT). In 2021, only the marks obtained in CAT and GAT were considered for the NIFT BDES result. 50% weightage was given to the CAT exam while 30% weightage was given to the GAT exam. All postgraduate programs in NIFT will take their admission through group discussion and personal interviews (GD/PI) apart from the NIFT entrance exam.

Weightage of NIFT 2025 Selection Round

Candidates shortlisted for admission to the Bachelor of Design course will have to take the NIFT 2025 Situation Test. The final result is expected to be released in June 2024, followed by a counselling process for the qualified candidates. The weightage for various courses as per the examinations is indicated in the table below.

NIFT Situation Test 2025

Candidates shortlisted for the B.Des. programme from the NIFT 2024 written exam will have to take the NIFT Situation Test. This is the second stage of the NIFT admission process. It is a practical creative test. It evaluates the material handling and innovative ability of the candidate in a given situation. Candidates will be invited to the nearest NIFT centre for the test. The test is given 30% of the total weightage for final admission.

At the test centre, candidates will be provided with a set of materials in a limited amount. They will have to use these materials to answer the questions posed to them. In this test, candidates have to create a 3D model based on the question asked. They will be given 2 hours during which they have to conceptualize and complete the model. Also, they have to support it with a write-up which will be evaluated later by the jury. The model/design created should be in proper form. It will be evaluated on the following basis:

  1. Space visualization of the candidate
  2. Concept development, i.e., how the main theme of the question has been answered while remaining creative.
  3. Innovative and creative use of the material provided i.e. how intelligently and beautifully the candidate has transformed the concept into a design or product.
  4. Composition and fabrication skills i.e. material exploration, experimentation and the amount of treatment given to otherwise simple craft raw materials.
  5. Color scheme and nuances of the model i.e. how well different types of materials have been combined according to their texture and weight.
  6. Overall presentation of the model i.e. how much novelty has been put into the final product.
  7. How well is he able to use the resources not only in variety but also in quantity, i.e. managing limited supplies

Evaluation is also done based on time management skills. These parameters are checked with the write-up given by the candidate explaining the concept behind the model built. The write-up should be in the English language only as the instructions for NIFT 2024 will also be in the same medium.

Important Points for NIFT 2025 Situation Test

Candidates appearing for the NIFT 2025 situation test must keep the following in mind:

  1. The candidate is prohibited from using any external or additional material while making the model/design.
  2. The required materials are provided to the candidate by the institute itself. These must be used to make the design or model.
  3. The use of personal materials is prohibited in the exam. Any applicant found borrowing materials or trying to bring in any kind of personal material will be disqualified from the exam.
  4. The candidates who try to reveal their identity by writing any personal details or putting any identifying marks on the model/design/write-up are immediately disqualified. The final results of the candidates will not be declared.
  5. The models/designs prepared are evaluated by the jury present there. The candidate must keep in mind that the model he/she has prepared will not be preserved for future reference

NIFT 2025 Group Discussion

Candidates selected for the Masters program from the written exam have to undergo a case study-based group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI). The GD will be about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the case study. A group of applicants is given a topic on which a panel of experts evaluates the candidates on various parameters. The candidate should not lose his patience during the discussion. The GD is conducted to evaluate the candidate's mental readiness, clarity of thought, and interpersonal skills. Therefore, one should not argue or fight during this, because if someone creates a ruckus, he may be disqualified from the NIFT 2024 group discussion. To perform better in the group discussion, the candidate must keep in mind the following parameters based on which the jury evaluates him:

  1. Conceptual clarity
  2. Knowledge of the topic assigned
  3. The contribution made to the topic
  4. Interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to generate new ideas
  6. Problem-solving approach
  7. Leadership qualities
  8. Effective communication

NIFT 2024 Personal Interview

The candidate has to go through the NIFT 2024 personal interview to get selected for the chosen course. During the interview, the jury will ask some questions which he or she has to answer. They will evaluate the candidate's aptitude based on his or her answers. The candidate must be confident while giving the interview and carry all the mandatory documents. Candidates are evaluated on various parameters. They are listed below:

  1. Career orientation
  2. Aptness for the course
  3. Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities
  4. Communication
  5. General awareness and aptitude
  6. Creative and lateral thinking
