What is NIFT Entrance Exam?

NIFT is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:

  1. Written Exam - It consists of GAT and CAT. GAT paper is compulsory for all programmes, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take CAT.
  2. Situation Test/ Personal Interview - Shortlisted B.Des candidates will have to take a situation test, while PG candidates will have to take a personal interview. The only exception is B.F.Tech programme, where the admission merit list will be prepared based on GAT scores only.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will make the NIFT application form 2026 available on its official website nift.ac.in. Candidates should fill in the application process before the last date of the NIFT 2026 application form. The candidates also need to pay the NIFT application fee of Rs 3000. Below are the instructions to fill in the application form: Visit the official website- nift.ac.in. Click on registration and provide the necessary information. Choose the NIFT exam centre from the drop-down menu. Upload the candidate's scanned photograph. Pay the application fee as specified by the category. Upload the documents required. Click on the 'Submit' button. Download and print a copy for future use.

Step 1: Check the eligibility criteria for the NIFT entrance exam on the official (www.nift.ac.in) NIFT website.

Step 2: Register Online Visit the official NIFT website and click on the "Admissions" tab. Click on "Apply Online" and fill in the required details such as name, email ID, mobile number, and password. Create a login ID and password.

NIFT Exam 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The NIFT exam eligibility criteria 2026 will be released by the authorities on their official website- nift.ac.in. Applicants need to satisfy the NIFT 2026 eligibility criteria to appear for the NIFT entrance test.   1. According to the NIFT 2026 eligibility, candidates who have cleared their 10+2 from any of the recognised boards or have appeared for the exams of the 12th class are eligible for the NIFT UG courses. On August 1st, the candidate's age should not be more than 24 years.
  2. Applicants for the postgraduate degree courses should have a Bachelor's degree in any stream from any Institute/ University who are recognised by law in India, or an Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID, and no age bar.

Undergraduate Programs

NIFT Exam Age Limit(B.Des & B.FTech)

The maximum age should be less than 24 years as on 1st August 2025. Upper age limit may be relaxed by 5 (five) years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities (PWD) categories. 

NIFT Exam Academic Qualification (B.Des & B.FTech)

  1. Passed Plus 2 level examination in 10+2 pattern from any recognised Central/State Secondary Examination Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board, New Delhi/Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi or passed the NIFT Delhi Entrance Examination.
  2. Passed Plus 2 level examination in 10+2 pattern from any recognised Central/State Secondary Examination Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi/Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, with Physics and Mathematics, and completed the NIFT Delhi admission process.
  3. Passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects, including Physics and Mathematics.
  4. Any public school/board/university examination in India or foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system with Physics and Mathematics.
  5. General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at Advanced (A) level with Physics and Mathematics/International Baccalaureate (IB).
Master's Programs (M.Des, M.F.M and M.FTech)

Candidates fulfilling the prescribed educational qualification criteria for the Master’s program can apply for the NIFT Entrance Exam.

NIFT Exam Qualifying Age

There is no Age limit for applying for a Master's degree in NIFT.

  1. Bachelor's degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognised by law in India, or a Graduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.
  2. For MFM Programme: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised Institute/University.

NIFT Exam 2026 Admit Card

NTA will release the NTA NIFT Admit card written exam in the first week of February 2026. The admit card will be released online at nift.online.in. You will need to enter your application number and date of birth to download the admit card.

On the day of the NIFT 2026 exam, the candidate must report to the exam centre with the admit card and a valid photo ID proof. The admit card will contain details such as name, roll number, exam date and time, and venue details. NIFT Syllabus 2026

NIFT 2026 entrance exam aspirants are recommended to refer to the NIFT syllabus because it will tell them what subjects will be covered, and it will guide the students in prioritising key topics. NIFT 2026 Exam Answer Key

The National Institute of Fashion Technology will release the draft NIFT 2026 answer key in the third week of February 2026. It will be uploaded on the NIFT NTA admission portal. It will contain the official answers to all the questions asked in the exam.

Note that no answer key will be released for the computer-based GAT paper only; no key will be released for the offline-based CAT paper. Using the answer key, you can calculate the number of correct attempts and then the probable score. Challenges against the draft key will also be allowed; the candidate will have to pay Rs 200 per challenge. The final answer key of NIFT 2026 will be released after considering the candidate's response.

  1. Go to the NTA NIFT admission portal.
  2. Click on the answer key download link.
  3. In the log-in window that opens, enter your Roll Number, Program Name, Question Booklet No., and DOB.

NIFT Exam Result 2026

NTA will declare the NIFT Result 2026 written exam results most likely in the third week of February 2026. The result will be released online on the NTA NIFT admission portal. Hard copies of the results will not be sent to the candidates.

Also, the written exam marks will not be used for admission purposes. It is only used to shortlist candidates for the next admission round.

NIFT Counseling 2026

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct the counselling for NIFT 2026 after the final results are declared.

Note that the role of NTA is limited to conducting the NIFT 2026 exam and announcing the results. The marks in the NIFT 2026 final results will be used to shortlist candidates for the counselling process.

NIFT 2026 counselling will have four seat allocation rounds, followed by a spot round. The vacant seats that remain after the four regular rounds of counselling will be offered in the spot round.

NIFT 2026 Counselling Process

The counselling process for NIFT 2026 will be conducted in a centralised manner for admission to 18 participating colleges. Candidates who qualify for the NIFT 2026 entrance exam will be eligible to participate in the counselling process.

Shortlisted candidates will have to register for counselling and lock in their choices. Here, choices mean the combination of an academic programme and a college. The choices entered by the candidate must be in order of priority. 

NIFT 2026 SEAT Allotment

Seats will be allotted based on the choices selected by the candidates and their merit rank in NIFT 2026To confirm their seats, candidates will have to pay the seat acceptance fee within the given deadline. Note that if the fee is not paid within the given deadline, the allotment will be cancelled and given to the next candidate in the order of merit.
