The Bhawanipur Education Society College was founded in 1966 with the motto “Education for Excellence” through the Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society. Accredited by NAAC and affiliated with the University of Calcutta, BESC was created under Article 30 (1) of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees linguistic minorities, such as the Gujarati-speaking community in Kolkata, the right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.

The College Library, also known as the Knowledge Resource Centre, is stocked with books, periodicals, reference volumes, and national and international journals covering all aspects of academic studies and research materials, with modern facilities.

Sports Facilities:

BESC has developed a sports environment that matches international standards and provides a truly global experience to all our students. The well-lit, 2,800 sq. ft, spacious and air-conditioned indoor sporting complex—the BESC Sports Arena—provides a host of options for students to quench their thirst for adrenaline including table tennis, pool, darts, carrom, and chess. The Multipurpose Astro Turf in the college courtyard is perfect for several outdoor games like basketball, volleyball, badminton, 5-a-side cricket, and futsal.

Admission

As per the new Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF) issued by The University of Calcutta for the Undergraduate Programme on 23rd June 2023, all Honours Programmes of studies shall be for a minimum duration of Eight (08) Semesters (4 years) with effect from Academic year 2023-2024.

The nomenclature of the courses is subject to change, as per The University of Calcutta.

The University of Calcutta now uses the nomenclature Major for ‘Honours’ and Minor for ‘General Electives.’ In addition to this, the CCF has also introduced new courses such as Inter-Disciplinary Courses (IDC), and Common Value-Added Courses (CVAC).
