The Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) is a pioneering, premier degree commerce college in India, situated in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. The College was established in 1943 by the Deccan Education Society to provide enlightened leadership and trained manpower in the field of commerce and business to the country which was on the threshold of independence. The college is affiliated with the University of Pune and has produced many notable leaders, businessmen, and industrialists like Sharad Pawar, Cyrus Poonawalla & Sulajja Firodia.

Prof. D. G. Karve, a renowned Economist and sometimes Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was the First Principal of the College. Situated at the foot of the rugged Fergusson College Hill and dotted with lush green trees and shrubs all around, it has a picturesque and inviting atmosphere. BMCC has recently earned the award of ‘College with potential for excellence’ from UGC.

LIBRARY

This year when B.M.C.C. celebrating its Platinum Jubilee, it is a matter of pride to present a brief account of our esteemed library too. BMCC Library is unique of its kind. We are happy to say that, it is turning 45 this year. The colossal, two-storied, specious library building is the jewel in the crown and was a milestone in the history of BMCC. It was inaugurated in November 1973 at the hands of the illustrious jurist and the renowned economist of India Shri. Nani Palkhiwala in the graceful presence of the notorious dignitaries of that time. It is now recognized as one of the prominent research libraries in the field of commerce. Well-known for its richness, convenience, and accessibility. It has always been a matter of attraction and curiosity among students, teachers, researchers, and scholars.

COMPUTER CENTER

Here are five computer laboratories with projectors for all the courses. Computer Laboratories are used in shifts by Junior college, Senior College B.Com., BBA, BBA IB, BBA CA, and Post Graduate students to learn programming languages (JAVA, PHP, LINUX, etc. ), Tally, Office software, and e-learning material. There is a separate laboratory to learn languages (German, French, Spanish, etc.). All students have free access to the internet as well as e-books and journals in Library Computer Laboratory.

Classrooms :

The college has 34 classrooms spread across four buildings on the campus. Classrooms are allotted to the students and teachers centrally by the timetable committee. All classrooms are well-ventilated and spacious. The housekeeping team takes care of the cleanliness in these classrooms. Three classrooms have digital boards which support the teaching-learning process effectively.

Faculty:

The College has a long tradition of attracting highly qualified persons to its faculty. A substantial number of teachers have research qualifications, authored textbooks, and reference books, and have published research and review articles in periodicals and journals. There is a conscious effort on the part of the teachers to continuously improve their qualifications and competence by participating in seminars, workshops, and refresher courses, and by undertaking research projects sponsored by the UGC and other bodies.

Placements

The Training and Placement activities encourage students to opt for jobs that better suit their profile. The placement season commences in the first month of every academic year and continues until the end of the academic year. Pre-Placement Talks are conducted for the final-year students before the commencement of placement sessions every year. The T&P cell has adequate infrastructure to accommodate all the activities related to the training and placement of PSIT students. It has wireless connectivity with company operations rooms, interview rooms, GD rooms, Seminar rooms, and student coordination rooms. 

Admissions

Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce Admission is based on the marks secured by the aspirants in the entrance examination conducted by the University/ Institute. Candidates can also apply with a valid CET (CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ CMAT etc.) score for courses such as MBA. For certain courses, candidates are selected based on merit, i.e. marks obtained in the last qualifying exam. Candidates applying for any of the courses offered by Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce are required to apply through the offline mode of application only. The process of application is as follows:

Step 1: Candidates can request a copy of the application form by post or collect it in person from the institute’s admission cell after paying the prescribed application fee.

Step 2: All requisite details as asked in the application form are to be furnished correctly.

Step 3: The complete application form, along with photocopies of required educational documents and other relevant forms, must be sent to the institute, committed to reaching before the last date. 

Step 4: Candidates who have received the application form by post must send a DD for the prescribed application fee along with the completed application form.

Step 5: Shortlisted candidates must appear at the counseling venue for the final stage of admission.
