Jogamaya Devi College is one of the oldest and leading women's colleges in Kolkata, India. It shares the same building with Asutosh College and Syamaprasad College and is named after the wife of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee. Jogamaya Devi College was established on 17th July 1932 by Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee in response to the growing demand for centers of women’s education in Kolkata.  It started as the morning section of Asutosh College with 155 students enrolled for the I.A. course. Panchanan Sinha was the first principal of the college. A part of Jatin Das Park was leased to the Asutosh Memorial Institute by the Calcutta Corporation for the construction of a new college building. The college shifted to this new address, 92-S.P. Mukherjee Road, in 1935.  This building, overlooking the busy Hazra crossing and adjoining the refreshing green of Jatin Das Park, functions as the main Academic Building of the college to this day.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Jogamaya Devi College classrooms and seminar halls are equipped with Projectors and Wi-Fi connection. Every department has been provided with Laptops. Desktop Units and Visualizer are provided in Smart Classrooms. College Management Software, bulk SMS, Online Attendance Tracker, Online Feedback System, Internal Marks and Attendance System, Online Registration System, etc are different ICT-enabled tools that help the college to provide effective teaching and learning.

Library:

The Central library operates and serves from the ground floor of the Academic Building of Jogamaya Devi College housed at 92, S. P. Mukherjee Road, Kolkata - 700026. Library hours for users are from morning 6.30 AM to 11.30 AM on Monday to Friday and till 10 AM on Saturdays. It has a great collection of more than 28000 text and reference books and subscribed few important journals, newspapers, and magazines to meet patrons' requests. Central Library offers an adequately spacious and well-lighted reading room facility for library users. Nearly about 80 students may use the reading room at a time. The library has a good quality archival collection of Sanskrit, English, and Bengali literature, Philosophy, Mathematics, History, and so on as a reference collection.

The central library serves as a core library for General and Honours course students for the circulation of books. Membership cards are issued from here for students. It offers a stock verification process for all departmental seminar libraries. There are various facilities offered by Central Library. Our resources are classified under DDC 23 rules, and cataloging and other library management facilities are maintained by Library Management software SOUL 3.0 version; provided by INFLIBNET. Open access facility, Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) search facility available for users. Institutional membership of British Council and American Library; Kolkata for our users. The online database N-LIST can be accessed by college students and staff through the college library. There are computers provided with internet connection for students and faculty in Central Library. Core and value-added services are offered for all users as per to meet their academic reference reading. Central Library is renovated and developed with a CSR grant under P. C. Chandra Gyandhara Project and developed an extension in the library with a very useful knowledge-building collection. A huge collection of resources was built under the RUSA fund and library renovations have been done with the help of the same.

Medical Facilities:

The College is offered the benefit of a whole range of medical treatment at moderate rates on being enrolled as a student health home member on payment of Rs. 5/- per session.

Sports Facilities:

The college encourages its students to participate in both inter-College and intra-college sports events. It is proud to have produced many sportspersons who have played at the State, National, and International levels and have numerous prizes and awards to their credit. The Annual Sports are organized by the students union every year during the winter months. Teachers, staff, and students enthusiastically participate in various events.

Cafeteria:

The college has a rooftop canteen in the Academic Building which provides wholesome food and snacks at subsidized rates to students. Another canteen is located in the Administrative Building.

Auditorium:

The college has Nivedita Hall, in the administrative building. is the internal college conference hail? The Asutosh Memorial Hall, a part of the academic building, is used for holding cultural and academic functions.

Admission

Candidates applying for UG courses with Honors are required to secure at least 60% aggregate marks at 10+2, and also 60% individual marks in each of desired subject combinations.

The minimum marks eligibility criteria for SC/ ST candidates for UG courses with Honors is 40% aggregate and 40% individual marks in the desired subject combinations.

Candidates for B.Com. General must secure at least 50% aggregate marks in 10+2.

PG candidates with minimum 55% marks in Graduation with Honors are eligible for direct admission to the M.Sc. and M.Com courses.

Only demand draft payments are accepted for payment of the application/ registration fee.

Placements

There is Career Counseling Cell that works throughout the year in providing Career Oriented Courses, Career Counseling, and Organizing on-campus placement drives.

Every year, the Cell tries to organize On-Campus Placement Drive at least once. 

Passed-out students too are given a chance to take part in the opportunity.
