Patna Medical College, Patna was established as Temple Medical School in 1874 with the admission of 30 students with fees of Rs. 2/- only per student for the whole course. This trend continued till 1925. After that Temple Medical School was shifted to Darbhanga and in its place a Medical College known as The Prince of Wales Medical College, was established. The formal inauguration of this Medical College was done on 25th February 1925. Various buildings were constructed by the donations from Princely states of Bihar. The first batch of 35 students was transferred from Medical College Bengal (Presently Calcutta Medical College, Calcutta) to Prince of Wales Medical College, Patna. This medical college can rightly claim to be the torchbearer of medical education in Bihar. Postgraduate courses were started in 1932. Postgraduate teaching in Orthopedics, Physiology, Gynecology, and Radiotherapy was first started in this institution in whole undivided India. Vertical and Horizontal integrated teaching and weekly seminars are the regular features of this institution.

Faculty: 

The faculties are well qualified and are interested in clinical teaching inwards. But When it comes to lecture classes only a few faculties are interested to teach willingly. Rest just put a PowerPoint presentation and finish off their lectures by reading those PowerPoint slides.

Placement:

As we all know medical college is not known for placement as such. But at the end of the 4th year, the stipend is given to 20000 per month which is quite good. After completing an internship which is 1-year program person can join government hospitals or any other medical facility institutions or study further for pg exams. 60 thousand per month after MBBS. In Bihar government and vary state to state.
