The college was an unattended institution from 1972 to 1978 and received government grants thereafter. of Andhra Pradesh. Later in 1997, the Government of Andhra Pradesh physically took over the college. RRDS Govt. The Degree College was founded in Bhimavaram, West Godavari District in 1972 by Sri Chintalapati Varaprasada Murthy Raju. che created ben 68 educational institutions under the aegis of Sri Chintalapati Bapiraju Dharma Samsthalu. It is named after Sri Raja Ramamohan Roy as "Raja Ramamohanroy Dwi Sathajayanthi College" to commemorate the bicentenary celebrations of the social reformer's birth.
