SANKAR INSTITUTE OF POLYTECHNIC was established in July 1958 by Sri S.N.N. Sankaralinga Iyer. The polytechnic is managed by the India Cements Educational Trust, Chennai. It is a State-Government-Aided institution since its inception. It is a co-educational institution. The medium of preparation is English. The polytechnic was granted Academic autonomy by the Government of Tamilnadu in 1993 in recognition of its quality of education. It was renamed SANKAR POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE in 2002 based on Government norms. Our Polytechnic celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1983 and Golden Jubilee in 2008-09.

Library:

To broaden cognizance approximately studying habit & it’s significance and pleasure. To provide opportunity and to encourage all students’ educational and recreational reading.

Sports:

have sufficient facilities on  campus for both field events and games for the students to practice. We have a standard and well established athletic ground with 400 mts track.have Ball Badminton courts, one Volleyball court, one Hand ball court, and oneTennikoit court, one Cricket pitch for net practice and one well maintained Cricket ground for matches. Sports club helps students to develop important social skills such as good citizenship, positive peer relations, and respect for authority. Studies have shown that those who engage in sport and physical activity learn leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, responsibility, self-discipline, and a sense of initiative. Sports club allows youth to build self-esteem as they learn to trust in their own abilities.

Hostel:

Sankar Polytechnic College is having separate hostel for boys and Girls. have 60 rooms for boys with a capacity to stay with 300 students. have 10 rooms for girls with a capacity to stay 50 students.

NSS

National service scheme was started in our polytechnic in 1986. Initially it was started with one unit comprising 100 volunteers. The two aspects of NSS are regular activities and a special camping program. Activities like career guidance, soft skill, entrepreneur ship, clean environment, free eye camps and medical camps are conducted in regular activities. A village is adopted by our NSS unit and a special camp is conducted in the village every year. Some innovative and creative programs and activities are conducted for the upliftment of the village. In 1998 the second unit of NSS was started by the Directorate of Technical Education. Now totally of 200 volunteers are enrolled in NSS activities. 

Health facilities:

This function was conducted on 11-02-2016 at 3 pm at our college auditorium.The chief guest was Dr. J.George Felix, BHMS, MD (HOM). Admission

A pass in Higher Secondary Course (Academic) with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.A pass in a Higher Secondary Course (Vocational stream with Engineering/ Technology and any one or two of the related subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry).
