St. Mira’s College is an integral part of the Mira Movement in Education; it was founded in 1962 by the visionary philosopher-saint Sadhu T.L. Vaswani as the first college set up exclusively for women in Pune.

Our patron saint is Saint Mira, who epitomizes Bhakti, Indian values, the courage of conviction, and rebellion for the right. Our spiritual Guru, mentor, and the inspiration behind all efforts of the college is the revered Dada J.P. Vaswani. The motto of the college– ‘Kindle the Light’, indicates our commitment to impart to students the spirit of simplicity and service, purity, and prayer. The Mission Statement of the college– To empower and equip women students through an integrated education of the Head, Hand, and Heart, to successfully meet the challenges of competitive work life and inculcate in them the Art of True Living. Eminent citizens, well versed in academics, with strong leanings toward social issues and student welfare, grace the managing committee of the college.

Infrastructure

Spread over an area of 2.5 acres, the college campus is modern, attractive, and well-equipped for comfort, convenience, and academic pursuits. The campus offers many special opportunities for students.

Apart from large and airy lecture rooms, many of which are equipped with learning facilitators like LCD Projectors and Smart Boards to facilitate ICT - enabled teaching, the college has well-equipped Computer Labs, an Electronics Lab, Psychology Lab, Language Lab, an Audio-Visual room, an Auditorium, and a large Sanctuary Hall. A richly-stacked, well-lit, and ventilated college library extending over two floors is a hub of activity all through the year.

There is a Cafeteria for students and staff alike. Every department has a cubicle with computer and internet facilities. There is a student's common room, adequate restrooms for staff and students, and a lift to facilitate the mobility of staff and students, especially the differently-abled. Adequate parking facilities are available for 2 two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Two well-organized Administrative Offices and an advanced Examination Cell see to the efficient administrative functioning of the college.

From an original strength of 62 students, the college has grown to accommodate more than 3000 students. We are fortunate to have a beautiful, clean campus and buildings with considerable scope for expansion and extension. The far-sightedness of the management has seen a constant investment in infrastructure.

Library

The College offers a spacious, computerized, and rich collection library. The library is spread across two levels with a total area of 10499 sq ft. The library has a seating capacity of 400 readers. The library’s collection comprises both print and e-resources. It is the center of all academic activities, which provides the necessary facilities to its readers to achieve proficiency in their respective fields and to incorporate general knowledge. The aspect of mental development is fully supported by the library.

The Library stocks necessary study material for preparing for various competitive examinations like MBA, JEE, NEET, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, NET/SET, UPSC, and MPSC as well as material on interviews, group discussion, personality development, etc. Apart from academic, reference, and general, we have collections in Sindhi and Hindi languages which are growing with book distribution schemes of NCPSL and CHD respectively. A collection of books by our founder Sadhu T L Vaswani and our guiding force Dada J P Vaswani is a valuable one for Value Education programs.

Placements 

St. Mira’s College has an active Placement Cell. The cell facilitates as a coordinating body between the industry and students. The raison d'être of our institution is to assist our students in achieving their dreams of successful careers in a challenging and ever-diversifying industry.

The Placement Cell enables students to explore the world of employment and new career avenues. It also helps students in career planning through counseling wherein they hone their strengths in terms of their interests, aptitudes, and abilities so that they can choose their career more effectively.

The focus of the Placement Cell is also on professional development by training them in employability skills such as resume building, group discussion, and interview skills which in turn helps the students to move into the desired occupation and/or apply to prestigious postgraduate and professional schools.
