GNM, or general nursing and
midwifery, is a three-year program that requires a six-month internship that
deals with a specific area of nursing practice, such as maternity care,
post-trauma rehabilitation, mental health care, data collection, and so on. In India,
there are 1936 nursing colleges with 1,00,930 seats. State governments
administer entrance examinations for GNM admission. GNM Admission does not have
a central examination. In order to be considered for admission to the GNM,
12th-grade students must complete a Science course.
General Nursing and
Midwifery is GNM in its full form. In 1871, four students attended Rajiv Gandhi
Government General Hospital in Chennai to begin training midwives for the first
time in India. In order to be eligible for GNM, students must pass English and
Science in 12th grade.

The GNM (General Nursing and
Midwifery) program, also known as GNM Nursing, is a 3.5-year program. It is a
diploma-level course that is appropriate for people who want to work in
clinical nursing.
The 3.5-year GNM Nursing program
consists of three years of instruction and a six-month internship. Internships
in hospitals, nursing homes, and even private medical firms are available to
students. This is a good option for people who want to help sick people and
doctors in different hospitals.
GNM Nursing programs are crucial
to the healthcare industry, especially in this day and age. Students in
vocational education can help patients with their needs by using clinical
methods.
The job requires administering
medications to patients and assisting physicians in society-wide care.
A GNM Nursing course's curriculum is specifically
designed to prepare students to become full-fledged nurses. It provides
candidates with both theoretical and practical training that assists them in
acquiring fundamental skills.
Basic, Post-Basic, and Distance
are the three most popular GNM programs in India.
The basic GNM course is the most
typical type of GNM. It is a bachelor's degree that teaches students to acquire
the necessary knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive nursing care to
patients with a variety of diseases. This degree prepares students to practice
as nurses. The course is designed specifically to produce general nurses who can
effectively contribute to the health team in a variety of hospitals and other
organizations.
Candidates must pass
science-related 10+2 exams with a minimum of 40% aggregate marks over the
course of three years. Additionally, candidates should be between the ages of
17 and 35. Additionally, each student must be medically fit.
Candidates for the post-basic BSc
Nursing or the post-basic GNM explore advanced knowledge. In addition to
classroom instruction, educational visits, and clinical instruction, this
knowledge is imparted. Post-basic GNM has a wide range of applications.
Candidates can work in clinics, public health centers, nursing schools, and
other settings. The regular version of this course lasts for two years, while
the basic version lasts for three years.
There is very little room for distance learning because
GNM, or general nursing and midwifery, is a highly technical profession.
Colleges that offer GNM online should be avoided by students.
The topics covered in the GNM
Nursing course focus on preparing students for careers in the medical field.
Students receive instruction in patient care, intensive care, and childbirth.
GNM nurses help doctors and senior nurses treat patients.
