The Managing Committee of the Society accepted the donation and began to make arrangements for starting the Commerce College. An application was sent to the University of Bombay in August 1945. The Local Inquiry Committee appointed by the University for the purpose visited Surat on 23rd December 1945 and the Senate of the University recommended to the Government in March 1946 the affiliation of the Commerce College for teaching of courses leading up to Intermediate commerce class for two years.

The Bardoli Satyagraha was initiated and spearheaded by Sardar Patel and lead to the ignition of mass agitation across the entire state of Gujarat and in different parts of the country against steep tax hike by the British Government in 1927. In 1993, the trust decided to establish three colleges: Arts, Commerce and Science and started to build the college campus. Finally, from 12th July, 1999, the academic year of Shree J.D. Gabani Commerce College commenced. The two colleges namely Shree J.B. Dharukawala Arts and Shree J.D. Gabani Commerce College had been a joint college from 1999 to 2005. Then the former college became a grant-in-aid and the latter got separated from the merged unit and thus became a self-financed institute.
