Belagodu Muthyala Shetty Government First Grade College (B.M.S.G.F.G.C), Konanur was established by Belagodu Sri. Muthyala Shetty, a Philanthropist, in August 1954. Many donors helped for the establishment of the college. The donation came in the form of money, land and materials as well. In those days it was beyond imagination to start a college in a small village like Konanur. There was only one college in Hassan district head quarters and Konanur is 55 kms away from Hassan. Thus this college becomes second oldest college of Hassan District. The college was established to cater the higher educational needs of surrounding areas of Hassan, Mysore and Coorg district.

The institute is affiliated to the University of Mysore, recognised by Government of Karnataka and approved by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
